Abubukaka’s store displays the unique ‘Lineage’ of El Niño Sombra. The exhibition, which is made up of around thirty small and medium format photographic collages, will remain open until the end of January.
Last Friday, December 15, the opening ceremony of the exhibition took place, made up of thirty small and medium-sized paintings.
‘El Niño Sombra’ has recreated a space that is reminiscent of grandmothers’ old houses from the 60s and 70s with their characteristic family portraits hanging on the walls or on the typical openwork doily or crocheted rug in a prominent place in the hall, the telephone table, an old chest or the shelves in the living room.
The protagonists of these works of vintage aesthetics are the members of various family clans from the end of the 19th century to the mid-20th century and who, as an irreverent children’s game, have been customized at the whim of El Niño Sombra with objects and elements from the times. disparate like a gramophone, some Doritos, a pack of gum Bang Bang3D glasses, a skateboard sancheskysome beach cholas, a flamingo-shaped float, etc.
Thus, this picturesque lineage in which fictional characters such as The Madonna of the Clueless Dog, the man with possible, Mari Puri and her beauty tricks, the girl with the key, the young man dressed as autumn either the argentinian canallita It exudes, in equal parts, nostalgia and romanticism, as well as fine irony and a veiled social criticism.
In parallel, some of the pieces in the exhibition are accompanied by QR codes through which you can access allusive music videos.
‘El Niño Sombra’ has participated in half a dozen group exhibitions and two individual exhibitions, the first of them: Walkers and itineraries, in the House of Venezuela in the Canary Islands and the second, under the name of Wanderingsat the La Guayaba Art Space, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
This is the third individual exhibition by this Tenerife creator, which can be visited at the Abubukaka store (Calle Heraclio Sánchez nº 27 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna) until the end of January; Monday to Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and also on Saturday mornings.
