Tenerife is once again the destination chosen to train by players from the Swedish national beach volleyball team, European champion and world runner-up. David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig, members of the Swedish team, are on the island as part of the preseason that they are celebrating on Las Vistas beach (Arona), which brings together another 40 players from the Nordic country.
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, indicates that “this action allows us to show all the possibilities of the destination at a time of year when temperatures in northern Europe are especially low, but here you can enjoy outdoor activities, in addition to a whole complementary offer where we can highlight gastronomy, heritage, leisure or first-class accommodation. Melwani values that, “in this specific case, the participants can, beyond enjoying the conditions of the Island, consolidate and promote their sports improvement program on the Island.”
David Ahman, a player for the Swedish national team, has come to the island many times in the last four years to train, “because there are ideal conditions; When it’s winter in Sweden, it’s like being in summer here. “It’s a perfect place to practice if you want to be number one in the world.” His teammate, Jonatan Hellvig, loves practicing beach volleyball in Tenerife, “especially in December, when it is winter in Sweden and the weather is warm here.” Rasmus Jonsson, Sweden coach and head of Beach Travels, organizer of the campus, reiterates his predilection for the Island, “not only for the climate, but for the variety of activities that the destination offers during a stay. It is the second year that the Island hosts this campus, which has already had the presence of more than a hundred participants since its first edition. An appointment that represents the continuation of the promotional action that Tenerife Tourism develops in recent years at the Summer Smash Festival in Sweden, the largest beach volleyball event in that country, during which the National Beach Volleyball Championship. There, Tenerife was promoted with the aim of repositioning the destination among Swedish travelers.
The Smash Festival had more than 700 teams and 1,500 participants in the Swedish beach volleyball championship alone, to which were added another 2,000 participants who took part in the previous week of training, in the volleyball festival and in other competitions. Altogether, more than 35,000 people attended the event, including participants and the public. Regarding the media impact, and between the different communication channels of the Smash Festival, the impact exceeded seven million people.
Among the actions carried out, in addition to placing banners and other promotional elements, the Island had a cool zone that captured the attention of players and visitors. In it, the draw was held for a training session in Tenerife within the campus that is being held these days on Las Vistas beach.
Swedish tourism, with 47,848 travelers staying between January and October, registered an increase of 41% compared to the previous year. The evolution of passenger arrivals from that country is also very positive, with an increase up to October of 51% and, cumulatively up to November, of 39%. Between January and November of this year, almost 60,000 passengers arrived from Sweden (58,893), which is 16,462 more compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to Istac data referring to the year 2022 and analyzed by the Tourism Research Department of Tenerife, the climate, the sea, the environmental environment, the beaches, making it a simple trip, the gastronomy and the trails, in addition to the Enjoying family and practicing hobbies are among his outstanding motivations when choosing the Island for his vacation.
The Swede is a visitor with one of the highest average family incomes of those on the Island, with 68,363 euros, only surpassed by Norwegians and Swiss. He is the second with the highest spending in the destination, 1,664.43 euros per person per stay, which places him 21% above the average of all nationalities that spend their holidays on the Island. He is the most loyal visitor to Tenerife, with a repetition rate of 72.7%, and with a satisfaction level of 8.65 out of 10.
