The General Directorate of Emergencies of Canary Islands has updated the situation from Pre-alert to Alert due to strong wind on the islands of The iron, La Gomera and part of Tenerife.
According to the regional government, this decision has been adopted based on the AEMET prediction and/or other available sources, and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena PEFMA (Decree 18/2014, of March 20).
Specific, upgrades to Alert to El Hierro, La Gomera and the municipalities of Puerto de la Cruz, La Orotava, Santa Úrsula, La Victoria, La Matanza, El Sauzal, Tacoronte, Tegueste, La Laguna, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and El Rosario in the Tenerife island. Meanwhile, the rest of the islands and municipalities of Tenerife will remain on Pre-alert.
Thus, a general wind with a strong east and southeast component is expected with very strong gusts that will probably reach or exceed 80 km/hwithout ruling out occasional gusts of 90-100 km/h due to the effects of the relief.
