To the satisfaction of its neighbors and visitors, Candelaria meets one of the oldest demands, that of having Public cleanings in the busiest areas of the municipality. Thus, after a long period of oblivion, the City Council has proceeded this week to install six self-cleaning toilets in the center of the municipality, but one of them has been located on private land, which has caused the energetic protest of a community of owners .
Specifically, it is the toilet placed at the beginning from the south of Marítima Avenue in a planter, next to the public sidewalk, of the Naiguatá urbanization, one of the largest in Candelaria, with 260 owners and more than 600 neighbors.
That complaint was transferred by the community’s property registrar to the City Council this Wednesday, without receiving any response so far. In that registered writing, the community remembers that the City Council cannot prove the ownership of that land and that the Councilor for Works and Services was already warned before it was placed, to which the councilor replied that he was going to clarify those matters. However, the portable urinal was placed in the planter, according to the mayor, because it was easier for the water and light connection.
The community reminded him that just 20 meters away he could locate it in the Punta Larga park, which has been under construction for months. For all these reasons, in the letter from the community of owners of the Naiguatá urbanization they insist on “the absolute rejection and express the energetic protest, warning of the undesirable consequences for the future of the installed device.”
City Hall
From the City Council they told this newspaper that “the space has been inventoried by the City Council since November 4, 2020. The area is in the process of regularization before the Property Registry”, although the qualification that they have transferred from that registry is negative.
The City Council insists that it is “a space for public use (free traffic of pedestrians,…) from more than 30 years ago, and the City Council is responsible for cleaning, arranging palm trees and gardens.”
The other five cabins are located in Plaza de Teror, Plaza de La Hornilla, Plaza Los Pescadores, Punta Larga beach and Rambla de Los Menceyes.
