One of the most historic demands of the residents and visitors of Candelaria will finally see the light. Half a dozen public toilets will soon be opened in the center of the municipality, which until now only had this service in the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, without there being one, for example, on the beaches, as they remain closed, for example. , the Chiriguito of Punta Larga. Beach users, until now, had to relieve themselves in nearby bars or urinate into the sea.
In May of this year, the Candelaria City Council put out to tender the supply and installation of six self-cleaning toilet cabins with a price that amounted to 271,440.04 euros.
The objective of the initiative is to provide the busiest areas of the municipality with personal hygiene facilities, since this type of infrastructure is lacking for users of the bathing areas and for visitors. Specifically, these first six cabins will be completed today in Plaza de Teror (central bus stop), Plaza de La Hornilla, Plaza de Los Pescadores, Punta Larga beach, Punta Larga park and Rambla de Los Menceyes.
All of them will be connected to the municipal sanitation network, after prior work by the concessionaire company’s personnel. Currently, the price is waiting to be approved in a plenary session – there is talk of a rate of 50 cents for individual use – to open them to the public the last week of this year or the first week of January.
All cabins are accessible, have a toilet, sink and baby changing table, and there is a drinking water dispenser outside. Instructions on how to use the toilet are found outside the cabins in three languages: Spanish, English and German.
