SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 15. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has released to public information the first phase of the Island Plan for Sustainable Mobility of the Island of Tenerife (PIMSIT), which includes an extensive analysis and diagnosis of mobility on the island and the proposal of a total of 17 alternatives or projects which will be enriched during the public exhibition phase, which has a period of 45 days, as published by the Official Gazette of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in its edition this Friday.
The Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, explained that this important progress document, which was already presented at the second Mobility meeting to the political groups that make up the Insular Corporation and also to the Canarian Federation of Municipalities (Fecam), “contemplates five large blocks in which the diagnosis of infrastructure and mobility is addressed; public transport; transport financing and planned actions and planning proposals.
Thus, he indicated in a note that “the diagnosis made is clear, to achieve sustainable mobility it is necessary to implement global measures with a comprehensive vision of sustainability, in addition to an executive summary, to facilitate reading, and some small illustrative videos”.
After this participation period of 45 business days, he noted that “the program of actions will be prepared and presented for public information.”
The progress of the plan structures its long-term development by establishing two temporary scenarios (2035 and 2045) and a total of 17 alternatives for action that combine road infrastructure projects, improvement of public transport, rail transport and mobility policies such as parking regulation. on the surface or the establishment of Low Emission Zones.
This points out the need for action in infrastructure, some of which has already been launched, such as the island ring or the project for a third lane in each direction and reorganization of links in areas with intensities of 100,000 vehicles per day, as in the case of the TF-5, between El Sauzal and La Laguna and in the afternoon rush hour between Santa Cruz and Guamasa and on the TF-1 between Adeje and Guaza.
CLOSURE OF THE ISLAND RING AND BUS-HOV LANES
The closure of the island ring to the west and the BUS-HOV lanes is also added.
On the other hand, the document points to the need to encourage the use of public transport.
In this way, this plan is especially committed to advancing in this restructuring of the network, adapting the bus service to users with greater flexibility and the extension of tram line 1 to the Tenerife Los Rodeos airport and the 2 to La Gallega.
In addition, the plan includes mixed alternatives that include the development of railway infrastructures such as Tren del Sur from Santa Cruz to Adeje (and its extension to Fonsalía) Tren del Norte from Santa Cruz Icod de los Vinos to Los Realejos (and its extension to Icod de los Vinos).
The regulation of parking is also included in the proposals since by regulating and managing parking in the areas of greatest demand, congestion would be reduced not only in urban areas but also on access roads, the TF-5 and TF- 1.
