The Union of Nursing Technicians (SAE) has denounced this Thursday that nursing care technicians (TCE) are assuming functions inappropriate for their professional category at the Canary Islands University Hospital (HUC) because the lack of financial resources prevents the hiring of personnel for these tasks
As reported by the SAE in a press release, this shortage of resources is the explanation given by the Director of Nursing and the Director of Management of the HUC.
The union details that “the absence in many services” of guards “forces” the TCE to carry out the transfer of patients; the lack of maintenance professionals, the transportation of oxygen cylinders; and the lack of an “adequate” cleaning protocol, the hygiene of surfaces, furniture and even beds, in special services such as ICU, emergencies, operating room recovery or delivery rooms. SAE adds that all of this “reduces the quality of care, since performing these tasks takes away valuable time to dedicate to the patient.”
He emphasizes that Royal Decree 546/1995, of April 7, which establishes the title of Technician in Auxiliary Nursing Care and the corresponding minimum teachings, establishes their functions as health professionals “and, of course, at no time does it include who must carry out the comprehensive cleaning of the spaces, the transportation of bales or the transfer of patients.”
SAE points out that it has been “fighting for years, both in the offices and in the courts, to ensure that the functions” of this professional group are respected and currently the lawsuits for the transport of oxygen cylinders are pending judicial resolution.
In the meeting held today, Thursday, with the directors of Nursing and Management of the HUC, they have demanded that the cleaning staff be increased to carry out comprehensive sanitation, and that guards be hired in a quantity adjusted to “the reality of care at the hospital every day.” of the week”.
He has also claimed that the new guide that will be prepared with its tasks starting next quarter is the same as that used in other hospitals of the Canarian Health Service.
“Our interlocutors have insisted on the lack of budget to carry out the hiring of guards, but they have committed to studying the situation that exists with the transportation of bullets and, finally, they have called us to a new meeting with the deputy director of management to address the cleaning situation and carry out a study in this regard,” SAE indicates in the note.
Finally, it demands that the agreement between Education and Health be applied so that the TCE that carry out the tutoring of intern students receive the certificate that accredits it, “as happens in the rest of the hospitals.”
