Starting next Friday, a total of 69 agents from the Local Police of the Tenerife capital will make up the special safety device on the occasion of the Christmas holidays, intensifying its presence in those places where there are crowds of people, especially in commercial and leisure areas, Christmas markets and entertainment areas. The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife will activate this police reinforcement starting on the 15th, as DIARIO DE AVISOS announced yesterday, which will mean adding 34 agents, in the different services of the Local Police, to the ordinary shifts of the security force. municipal, in which another 35 police officers are located.
From the Security area of the Corporation, headed by Councilor Gladis de León, it is pointed out that, as happens on other occasions, the activation of this reinforcement is carried out coinciding with the days of greatest influx of people to the capital, which on this occasion will be from next Friday.
Unlike other municipalities, in the capital this device will be maintained until next January 10, thus covering the sales period that also entails a greater influx of people to commercial areas, in order to ensure safety on the streets. , as well as improving road safety and fluidity in circulation, mainly at the entrances and exits of commercial areas.
The order of the special security plan for Christmas, New Year’s Eve and Three Kings, signed by the acting commissioner, Juan Francisco Márquez, and to which DIARIO DE AVISOS has had access, states that the agents (including the commanders) will be distributed in the different services that make up the Local Police, distributed between the morning and afternoon shifts, by two commanders and 12 police officers who will reinforce the operational groups from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
In addition, the services of the Canine Guide Unit will be integrated into the device; the Communications room, which will be expanded with one or two agents according to needs, and the Attestations service, with an agent in the morning and afternoon shifts or even nights, to carry out specific DGT campaigns for control of alcohol and drugs.
Exceptions
However, it is specified that there will be no extraordinary reinforcement service on the afternoons of December 24, 25 and 31 or on January 1 and 6, although for Three Kings Day, on the occasion of Military Easter, a service of 7 police officers and 1 command between 08:00 and 14:00. Likewise, a specific device will be established for the nights of December 24 and 31 and January 5 (Cavalcade and Three Kings Eve).
The specific Christmas security device in the capital also affects the need for foot patrols for closer attention to citizens. In this sense, it emphasizes that the plainclothes service of agents may be added, from time to time, in some of the areas that could be determined according to the needs or other demands that may arise in the coordination meetings that are being held with the Police. National.
Regarding the areas included to intensify foot patrol by local police, the order from the Capital City Council specifies different areas, such as Avenida Tres de Mayo and surrounding streets before the convergence of shopping centers; El Corte Inglés and Intercambiador roundabout; Añaza-Alisios commercial area; Our Lady of Africa Market; Venezuela Avenue; Plaza de España and Alameda del Duque Santa Elena; Calle Castillo, Plaza del Príncipe and Plaza de Parque Boulevard; and the commercial areas located in Ofra, Los Majuelos and Tíncer-Barranco Grande.
