Representatives of neighborhood and commercial associations from the Southwest district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife have met with the Common Deputy, Rafael Yanes, to show their disagreement with the project to expand Line 2 of the tram on Avenida de Los Majuelos.
The representative of the Neighborhood Association ‘La Unión de La Gallega’ and the ‘Civic Front of the Southwest District’, Domingo Vicente Chávez, told Yanes that this decision “contradicts the initial project to carry out the expansion along Avenida of the Hesperides, considered the most suitable due to its physical characteristics and its social relevance.”
“We face the loss of our only commercial, social and dynamic lung. Los Majuelos Avenue is our artery of coexistence and changing the tram route to this location is a nonsense that has been decided behind the backs of the neighbors and their social representatives,” added Chávez.
According to these associations, “there is no consideration for the repercussions of invading a space as consolidated and dynamic as Avenida de Los Majuelos. “The decision was made without adequately evaluating the consequences and at an exorbitant cost that lacks logical justification.”
The Common Deputy, for his part, promised to contact the Cabildo of Tenerife to find out if Metropolitano actually intends to use Avenida de Los Majuelos and the arguments to maintain that position. The representatives of the neighborhood and commercial associations of the Southwest district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife filed a complaint with the Provincial Council showing their disagreement with this Tram route.
