The 302 students of the Los Abrigos school will resume their classes in person this Tuesday in the barracks of what was the Guaza Secondary Education Institute (IES). The transfer of students to Guaza is a measure adopted jointly by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports and the Granadilla de Abona City Councilwith the aim of minimizing distance teaching time, avoiding the separation of students (many of them siblings) by dividing them into different centers and to provide dining and transportation services normally.

It is worth remembering that Los Abrigos school suspended teaching activity last November 24 due to the deficiencies detected in the basement of one of its buildings (the so-called sanitary chamber), coinciding with a specific breakdown. A situation that does not put the safety of the property at risk, whose stability has not been compromised either, according to the Ministry of Education. However, these deficiencies have forced urgent works to be carried out, in order for the center to return to normal as soon as possible.
To resume teaching activity while these works are carried out, the Ministry of Education, which directs Poli Suarezcarried out the necessary actions for the adaptation and conditioning of the previous IES Guaza, built with modular classrooms, where the students will be relocated starting tomorrow. Thus, in these facilities that have more than 8,000 square meters (4,300 built), a shock cleaning intervention was carried out, painting the spaces that make up the facility, waterproofing the roof, sanitizing the plumbing and the adaptation of the dining room, among other issues.
These improvements will allow 302 students from CEIP Los Abrigos (79 infants and 223 primary students), in addition to teaching and non-teaching staff, to resume face-to-face teaching starting this Tuesday, thus meeting the demands and needs of the community school and facilitating the reconciliation of work and family life.
One of the actions that will be carried out in this regard will be the launch of a transportation service to transport all students from Los Abrigos to Guaza daily, and vice versa, until teachers and students can return to the classrooms normally.
