The two councilors of Arico Somos Todos (AST) have denounced the negligence of the municipal government in the management of the Arico Nuevo cemetery, emphasizing that there are only two free niches left in the cemetery.
However, the mayor, Olivia Delgado (PSOE), categorically denies the information conveyed by AST, declares that “there are more free niches” and regrets that “the only objective of the opposition is to confuse citizens.” What’s more, the municipal councilor considers that the most serious problem at the Arico Nuevo cemetery “starts from a work on private land that was carried out under the direction of the previous councilor responsible for works and services of CC and the former mayor Sebastián Martín.” For this reason, the Government group points out that they are working hand in hand with municipal technicians and jurists to provide a solution to this serious problem and, at the same time, the possibility of purchasing land to develop a municipal cemetery expansion project.
Meanwhile, the technicians are working on drafting the report and documentation necessary for the expansion of niches within the current cemetery. “In the municipality of Arico there are two cemeteries and it is a very irresponsible and unconstructive attitude to alarm the neighbors and neighbors with information that does not fit reality,” says Olivia Delgado. Furthermore, he adds, “the work to expand a cemetery is done with sufficient advance notice, because not only do projects have to be drafted and approved, but also the specifications for the bidding for the works and the time until they are awarded and executed must also be prepared. which demonstrates a profound ignorance of the opposition by stating that it is possible to resort to emergency procedures, since such procedures are regulated by law and are not valid in this case as confirmed by municipal technicians. This is a job that should have started two years ago and that the previous person in charge did not do.”
The councilor thus goes against what was stated by AST, for whom “the problem is not money, it is management. There are treasury remnants and probably items in the current budget, in which this action may have a place, more than justified by the seriousness of not having available niches in Arico el Nuevo.”
