The Local police of Santa Cruz of Tenerife has stopped providing security service on the beach of The Theresies since last Friday, December 1st. In a service order issued by the council, the acting commissioner, Juan Francisco Márquez González, assures that this measure is due to a lack of personnel, alluding to the fact that “the agents assigned to said service must join their respective Operational Groups.”
The decision has been criticized by the opposition, specifically, by the socialist councilor Florentino Guzmán, who through his official X account has ironically said that “the palm trees will be the new watchmen on the beach.”

In statements offered to this newspaper, Guzmán recalled that the “organizational reasons” alleged by the commissioner cannot be explained “when the police officers are the same in January as they are now.”
The Local Police had been acting in Las Teresitas for almost a year due to the large influx of tourists and local visitors to the beach. It was then decided to establish it on a permanent basis to date. Beach agents control the sandy area mainly where they prevent theft and disturbances to coexistence, and have even rescued bathers in trouble. With municipal agents out of the area, these tasks will not be carried out with the maximum guarantees, since the patrol police, who also serve on Las Gaviotas beach and the municipality of San Andrés, cannot access the sand because its uniformity does not allow it, and doing so is not fixed but rather in response to some requirement.
