The Cuevas Blancas Park, Tenerife’s epicenter of innovation and technology

The Cuevas Blancas facility, in the southwest of Santa Cruz, will become the epicenter of innovation and technology of Tenerife. The Cabildo promotes this enclave as the main headquarters ofl Science and Technology Park (PCTT), as well as a link between business and science. It does so through the insular area of Innovation, Research and Development, which will entrust Gesplan with the projects to improve the facility –reparcelling and urbanization of the SO-19 sector–. The island Government will invest 516,000 euros and the works will have an execution period of one year.

The island councilor of the area, Juan José Martínez, explains that “we are going to give the definitive boost to Cuevas Blancas, because it is essential to develop policies linked to innovation and technology.” He values that “this infrastructure should have already been in operation, but incomprehensibly, the previous governing group of the Cabildo stopped the actions.” In this sense, he delves into the fact that “What we have done now is to entrust Gesplan with the work of a prior study of the background and the reparcelling and urbanization projects.”

After visiting the area, Martínez points out that “the development of infrastructure is the basis for obtaining an environment that favors innovative processes.” He added that “we have already built the building that will be the headquarters of the Park and, now, it is necessary to build the one intended for multi-companies and the necessary infrastructure to accommodate the one with a technological base.” With all this, the counselor concludes, “Cuevas Blancas will become an ideal ecosystem for the installation of technology-based companies and a place to develop local talent.”

The PCTT headquarters will house management offices, others for rental operation, common use infrastructure –training rooms, meeting rooms or assembly halls – and specific services (nursery, cafeteria…). The second phase consists of constructing the multi-company building, which will have three modules and will be intended for large and multinational companies.

The Park aims to help diversify the Island’s economy with the development of the culture of innovation. The axis is the improvement of competitiveness by concentrating global technological companies or research, development and singular production entities of applied technology. Promotes the transfer of knowledge and the hiring of specialized talent. The PCTT has the Innovaparq enclaves University of La LagunaInnovaparq Dársena, Las Mantecas and Cuevas Blancas.

The Tenerife Science and Technology Park is a company created on January 12, 2006 by the Tenerife Council that manages these scientific infrastructures. The shareholders are the Island Corporation (99.2%), the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council (0.26%), the Port Authority of Tenerife (0.26%) and the Urban Planning Management of the Tenerife capital.
