He Tenerife Council has closed the walking trails of Montaña Blanca-Pico Teide and the Mirador de la Fortaleza, located in the Teide National Park, due to the presence of ice. The measure is adopted after the rainfall in recent days, which has caused the presence of ice and snow on the aforementioned trails, which poses a risk to people.

Specifically, trail No. 7 Montaña Blanca-Pico Teide has been closed in the section between the summit of Montaña Blanca and the point of contact between trails No. 7 and No. 11 Mirador de la Fortaleza, while trail No. 11 Mirador of the Fortress has been completely closed. The measure will remain in place until safety conditions improve on the trails in the upper part of the Teide-Pico Viejo stratovolcano.

The prohibition does not affect those people with a valid mountain federation card who have the appropriate equipment or the companies and individuals registered in the Active Tourism Registry of the Government of the Canary Islands dedicated to hiking, mountaineering and trekking on the island of Tenerife that accompany and guide groups of up to a maximum of 15 people per guide.

On the other hand, the Natural Environment, Sustainability and Security and Emergencies area has opened various forest trails and tracks. Thus, traffic is allowed in the open area in the Orotava Valley, which includes the Bermeja and El Pastelito tracks to the lane called ‘De la Shell (included), and access via the Mamio track to the Choza de Pedro Gil.

Previously, the mountain was already open from the Mataznos track to the north (including the Benijos and Caballos tracks). Likewise, access is opened to all roads and trails south of the TF-24 highway within the Lagunetas Protected Landscape and the Corona Forestal Natural Park, with the exception of the El Fayal track, between the Ovejeros track and the highway TF-24, and the Boca del Valle Runway, due to landslides on them.

In addition, circulation is exceptionally authorized on the Ramón El Caminero Track to Izaña or the Limón Mountain Track (La Orotava), the El Rayo Track from Las Erillas (El Rosario) to La Victoria (crossing with the Las Rosas track) and the of Fuente Fría between the Lomo de Las Jaras recreational area and the intersection with Pista de El Rayo (Plaza de La Paz).

The Cabildo recommends taking extreme precautions in all areas open to traffic due to the risk of falling bushes, stones, soil movements and the presence of holes in the ground due to burned stumps.

Likewise, access to the mountain will be prevented, even to permitted areas, when adverse meteorological phenomena occur in the form of precipitation or strong wind, and in the days following them. In addition, access will not be made to the roads (tracks, lanes and trails) that are closed with barriers and fences for the safety of citizens.

On the other hand, the following recreational areas and camping areas continue to be temporarily closed: Hoya del Abade (La Victoria), La Caldera camping area (La Orotava), La Laguneta Chica (Santa Úrsula), Las Calderetas (El Sauzal), Los Friars (Arafo) and Ramón El Caminero (La Orotava).
