The Council of Ministers has approved the appointment of the former Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Héctor Gómez from Tenerife, as the new ambassador of Spain to the United Nations (UN) in New York.
Gómez has a degree in Labor Sciences, a degree in Law and a diploma in the specialty of Tourism.
He was a councilor of the Guía de Isora City Council (Tenerife) and regional deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands until his appointment as general director of Turespaña in 2018.
In the 2019 general elections it was elected deputy for Santa Cruz de Tenerife and since then has been spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Commissionhead of delegation of the Conference on the Future of Europe and member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
In 2021 he was appointed spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Congress of Deputies and later president of the Constitutional Commission.
In March 2023 He was appointed Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and is currently a deputy in the Cortes Generales for Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
