Tenerife For the first time, it will have a team of professionals against sexist violence in the rural world. The initiative is one of the fifteen amendments to the 2024 budgets presented by the groups of Canarian Coalition and Popular Party, which form the government in the Council. Equipped with 324,544 eurosthe multidisciplinary and itinerant service will transfer actions against social scourge to the field.
The proposal responds to the request of the insular Minister of Social Action, Inclusion and Volunteering, the popular Águeda Fumero, who, according to the text of the proposal, “highlights the need to have (next year) the financing for the opening of two new offices, in the region of Abona and the La Orotava Valley, as well as the one destined for a new service to care for women victims of gender violence in the rural world. He multidisciplinary team dedicated to this comprehensive care and intervention will be made up of a jurist, a social worker, a women’s psychologist and a minor’s psychologist.
The global amounts for both offices and the new service amount to 506,274 and 142,814 euros, respectively. The latter is pending bidding and its award is expected to take place in mid-2024. Hence, it is necessary to “budget the amount corresponding to the second half of the year, which represents 324,544 euros.” The proposal clarifies that the modification introduces an increase in expenditure for those 324,544 euros and a decrease for the same amount in the care for the elderly at home.
The initial draft of the island accounts for a total of 1,041 million in the General Budget and 1,138 in the Consolidated, with the addition of dependent companies and autonomous organizations, includes since the initial approval by the plenary session, last Monday, the 15 amendments of the Government itself for 2.5 million. In addition to the allocation for the Gender Violence Unit, it is worth highlighting the 344,663 euros allocated to the agreement between the Cabildo and the Arico City Council for the development of the Territorial Waste Management Plan. In total there were 21 proposals accepted – 15 from the government, four from Vox and 2 from the PSOE– for 5.2 million.
Vox saw those four amendments approved, more than half of those presented, for 2,350,000 euros – the overall amount was about four million. Since the expansion of Rehabilitation plan for the Güímar Industrial Estate –one million– to priority works for municipalities with up to 50,000 inhabitants –another million–, including the improvement of the Los Baldíos road, the TF-265 (50,000 euros) and the rehabilitation of Arona bay (300,000 euros) .
The spokesperson for the Greens, Ana Salazar, has already been released with 75% since the beginning of the mandate and when the 2024 budget comes into force the deputy, Naim Yánez (the Mixed Group, that is, Vox, has two counselors) will have the 50% of the remuneration of a government advisor. Salazar assessed that “although the budgets can be improved, they represent a starting point to initiate the change that Tenerife needs after four years of socialist policies that have led the island to the loss of leadership.” For Naím Yánez “it is a vote of confidence.”
325,000 euros of 47.5 million
The Socialist Group in the Tenerife Council –main force of the opposition with 11 of the 31 councilors in the Corporation– presented 50 amendments of economic and other technical content to the totality opposed to the bases of execution of the island budgets for next year. This total of fifty specific proposals for the allocation of items in the island accounts for next year amounted to just over 47.5 million euros. Only two were approved, or rather, according to socialist sources “one and a half.” Number 17 requested a subsidy for the Venezuelan Canary Union of 100,000 euros in order to finance the costs of sending humanitarian aid to the Andean country, the acquisition of essential products, as well as other operating expenses of the entity. Number 23 received partial support, since the amendment had a value of 800,000 euros – the same amount budgeted for this in 2023 – intended for the reform of the El Ravelo animal shelter and it was only accepted to sell it for 250,000 euros. | JDM
