This was indicated during an event to celebrate the International Day of People with Disabilities held at the facilities of the Sports City of Tenerife Javier Pérez, where he added that work will be done in the coming years to achieve this.
Clavijo pointed out that with this objective, an important step has already been taken through the creation, for the first time, of a specific General Directorate for this area.
“We wanted to make a firm commitment to people with disabilities and, for the first time, the Government of the Canary Islands has created a specific General Directorate that will be in charge of designing, managing and promoting policies aimed exclusively at the care of people with disabilities,” he said.
Likewise, he added that “this is an exciting task that, at the same time, will require a lot of effort. But from the Administration we are going to do everything on our part to facilitate the full inclusion of people with disabilities and enhance their capabilities; our society does not can afford not to count on you.”
For their part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families, Candelaria Delgado, the general director of Disability, Dulce María Gutiérrez, and the president of the CD Tenerife, Paulino Rivero.
Rivero precisely valued the great work being carried out by the inclusive sports and disability area of the Canarian Foundation of the blue and white entity, coordinated by the psychologist specializing in physical activity and sports for people with disabilities, Artamy Rodríguez.
“On this anniversary,” he commented, “we want to highlight the work that has been carried out for several years, positioning sport as a tool to help Have a better quality of life. A clear example of this is reflected in the qualitative and quantitative development of the CD Tenerife EDI and PC teams, as well as the training projects, already implemented currently and new ones that are planned to begin soon.”
Meanwhile, Candelaria Delgado highlighted that “sport represents an important tool for the transmission of inclusive values, such as solidarity, tolerance and the appreciation of individual differences.”
For this reason, he emphasized the possibilities it presents for raise awareness among the population and encourage support and collaboration towards people with disabilities.
He also added that the objective is to “unite efforts, those of all areas of the administration”, because “disability should not be an exclusive matter of the social or health areas, and it is something in which all of us are going to get involved.” departments: employment, education, economy, housing, industry, justice”.
