RIU expands its social investment in Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote

The Canary Islands are one of the main destinations for RIU in the world and the first in Europe both in terms of number of rooms and employees. This is why, after increasing RIU’s social investment by almost an additional million euros in 2023, the chain has made the decision to allocate nearly 700,000 euros to new projects on the islands. This represents almost a quarter of the social investment planned for this year in the world.

Following its three lines of action focused on children, biodiversity and the local community, the hotel chain reinforces existing alliances, as well as betting on new projects on the four islands in which it is present. The powerful social investment projects in the Canary archipelago add three new allies and seven new actions to support the local community.

Among them, it is worth highlighting the collaboration that RIU has with Little Bravea strategic and historical ally of the chain in the islands, who have just celebrated the sixth edition of their great Little Valiente Gala last Friday, November 24 in Gran Canaria to raise funds for their projects to fight childhood cancer.

The powerful social investment projects in the Canary archipelago add three new allies and seven new actions to support the local community.

An event that was a complete success since for the first time in its history it was broadcast live from the Gran Canaria Arena through RTVE’s La 2, which made it possible for the public to attend the fundraiser of 67,450 thousand euros donated. by companies on the islands and up to 6,360 thousand euros donated by individuals, the highest collection of all its editions, to which we must add nearly 4,100 tickets purchased by the public to enjoy the live show. For its part, the Mallorcan chain collaborated in this event, as in previous editions, with supportive accommodation for some of the artists and with volunteer waiters for the catering service during the gala.

This year, in addition to maintaining the projects in Gran Canaria and Tenerife with the Help me to Follow program of Pequeno Valiente, with the financing of accommodation in Casa Pipa for families displaced from other islands during treatments and with the annual financing of the salary of the physiotherapist within the same program, RIU expands its collaboration with the entity with the financing of the creation of the care office for families affected by childhood cancer on the island of Fuerteventura, with psychosocial, psychological and physiotherapy services, to which will allocate 220,858 euros.

Likewise, the Mallorcan chain begins two new collaborations with its strategic ally in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote for psychology services and sociocultural programs to follow up on the cases of children and families who are in the process of treatment and other users of the foundation.

It is worth highlighting the collaboration that RIU has with Pequeno Valiente, a strategic and historical ally of the chain in the islands, who have just celebrated the sixth edition of their great Pequeno Valiente Gala last Friday, November 24 in Gran Canaria

On the other hand, RIU has established new alliances, on the one hand, in Tenerife with the Red Cross, to finance the Hospitalized Children program at the Canary Islands University Hospital, and with SOS Children’s Villages, to help finance the Care Centers Day for children and family members at social risk. And on the other hand, on the Island of Gran Canaria the chain has forged alliances with Ayuda en Acción, to support the “In-Pulsa Canarias” program, which aims to reinforce Vocational Training in the public system and support the transition of the new education towards work for the socio-educational disadvantaged youth population, and with Children’s Villages, to finance the two Day Care Centers in Telde, where comprehensive care is provided to children and families at risk.

The sum of these actions confirms a new cultural direction in sustainability in RIU’s CSR: sustainability with good sense; and it is the result of the process of dialogue and internal reflection that has laid the foundations for developing the new sustainability strategy of the Mallorcan chain.
