Ports of Tenerife delivers the oPORTunity awards, which recognize innovation in companies in the sector



The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife celebrated this Friday the Tenerife Ports Innovation Dayin which the exceptional work of innovative port companies was highlighted with the delivery of the oPORTunity Innovation Awards in its first edition.

These awards, which recognize Puertos de Tenerife’s “firm commitment” to excellence, sustainability and innovation, driving transformation in the regional port sector, went to Fred. Olsen Soluciones Portuarias, Balearia, and Julio Rodríguez, for the Marohe Project, explained the organization.

Specifically, Fred’s work was recognized. Olsen Port Solutions, in the Port Digitalization category for the creation and development of a platform that qualitatively improves the management capabilities of ships, suppliers and port calls, guaranteeing efficient synchronization with the Port Authority through an application for this purpose called DUEPORT.

Baleria, for its part, won the award in the Technological Innovation category for putting into operation the first electric ferry in Spain, the Cap de Barbaria, with zero emissions in approaches, maneuvers and stays in ports. This innovation is aligned with Puertos de Tenerife’s goal of net zero emissions by 2035.

Finally, in the Intrapreneurship category, special recognition was given to Julio Rodríguez for the Marohe Project, which offers an innovative solution, based on data analytics, that allows providing intelligence to the port business.

The event, held in the Junta del Puerto building, was attended by the president of Puertos de Tenerife, Pedro Suárez, the head of the Innovation and Strategic Projects Division, Santiago Yanes, and the head of Innovation in State Ports, José Llorca. , who recognized and rewarded the technological vanguard that will lead the change towards a cleaner and more environmentally friendly port future.

In his speech, Pedro Suárez made clear the Tenerife Port Authority’s “definitive commitment” to innovation as a tool to achieve competitive ports, in a system that “changes at greater and greater speed.”

For his part, José Llorca provided a detailed vision of the Ports 4.0 capital fund, a corporate open innovation model adopted by State Ports and the Spanish Port Authorities to attract, support and facilitate the application of talent and entrepreneurship to the Spanish port-logistics sector. public and private in the context of the 4th industrial revolution.
