Two bodies found in Teide National Park

The Civil Guard investigates the discovery this Friday of two corpses in it Teide National Parkin the Pico Viejo area, sources from the armed institute confirmed to Efe.

The bodies do not show signs of violence and the hypothesis that the Civil Guard is working on is that they are two hikers who have died of accidental death, either due to a fall or hypothermia. Pico Viejo is located at about 3,100 meters above sea level.

In the absence of full identification, the bodies would correspond to two foreigners.

The Civil Guard was activated by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CEOCES) 1-1- of the Canarian Government 2 after receiving the alert between 10:00 and 11:00 in the morning this Friday, the sources specified.

Members of the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group and a Civil Guard helicopter moved to the site.

In the last few hours, two other hikers were also rescued at the upper station of the Teide cable car by Tenerife Firefighters from La Orotava park. Both presented symptoms of hypothermia and dehydration. The operation, as explained by the Tenerife Fire Department, lasted about eight hours.

Since this Thursday, Tenerife has suffered the effects of an Atlantic front that has left abundant stormy rains and a light blanket of snow on the summit of Teidewhere temperatures dropped considerably overnight.
