After the opening of the event, with the performance of the students of the Ernesto Beteta Music School, Juan Acosta highlighted the work of the troops who participated in the operation to reduce the impact on the mountains as much as possible. He recalled that the municipality counted 1,020 hectares burned in the forest crown and the largest number of people evacuated during the fire: a total of 4,000. Likewise, he explained that, despite the emotional impact and the loss of a home, no personal injuries were reported. «That is not only fortunate, but proof of the great work carried out by the security forces, the UME, the Brifor and those who gave their all to contain and quell the flames, preventing the losses that we regret today from being not only much older, but more tragic,” said Acosta.
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, made an intervention in which she assessed the behavior of the residents of the municipality during the fire. “What we found in Santa Úrsula was a very respectful and disciplined response from the population, especially the evacuees, which facilitated the operation and the task of the professionals who were fighting the fire on the front lines,” she highlighted.
