VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), Nov. 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Mercahierro, the public company in charge of managing the island oil mill, has reported that this year’s harvest has broken the production record for extra virgin olive oil with a total of 1,265 liters, 365 more than the previous campaign.
Likewise, the company highlights the incorporation of 15 new farmers, making a total of 52 participants in the milling.
This production is based on the transformation of 11,214 kilos of olives from different varieties grown on the island and processed in four mills between September and November.
When delivering the oil to the olive growers, the bottle formats were adapted to their specific needs and quantities, guaranteeing correct labeling and registration in accordance with current regulations, states a note from the Cabildo.
David Cabrera, CEO of Mercahierro, thanked the farmers for their dedication and highlighted the quality of the production, underlining the importance of the technique in charge of the process.
“In every drop you can see the commitment to excellence and authenticity, fundamental values for our primary sector,” he stated.
For his part, Alpidio Armas, president of the El Hierro Cabildo, highlighted the quality of the oil, placing it on par with the best nationally.
“We should feel proud of the quality of this oil, which deserves to be recognized beyond the island borders. We are producing an exceptional treasure,” he said.
Mercahierro retains a percentage of each farmer’s production for analysis and participation in fairs in order to promote olive oil from El Hierro at different local and international events.
