SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has published the provisional Resolution of the subsidies intended for the adoption of environment and climate measures for the financial year 2023, worth 4,477,461.67 euros, in the framework of the Rural Development Program (PDR).

To benefit from this aid, the beneficiaries, a total of 1,356, must accept it within a period of ten days starting today, Monday, November 27. The objective of the subsidies is to promote sustainable agricultural practices that are respectful of the environment and the landscape, meeting the demand for environmental services and promoting compliance with environmental and climate objectives.

The grants support environmental commitments, such as beekeeping, woody crops on slopes or terraces, grazing management for the protection of flora and fauna through transhumance, the preservation of native breeds in danger of extinction, the maintenance of hedgerows traditional crops, the improvement and conservation of topsails, the conservation of the physical environment, Integrated Production and in situ conservation, among other actions.

The general director of Agriculture, Javier Gutiérrez Taño, highlighted the growing awareness of Canarian producers in relation to the adoption of sustainable practices, and referred to the fight against climate change as a responsibility shared by all of society and the various economic sectors. . Furthermore, he pointed out that “this environmental commitment also has the objective of improving the quality of food produced in the Archipelago and its effects on our health.”

This aid is financed 15% by regional and state funds (671,626.99 euros), while the remaining 85%, equivalent to 3,805,834.68 euros, is obtained from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) on a extrabudgetary.
