La Laguna displays its most spectacular lighting to celebrate the arrival of Christmas


The magic and sparkle of Christmas It can already be felt in the streets of The lagoon, after the celebration of the emblematic lighting of the city. Thousands of people gathered in different parts of the historic center, especially under the popular arch of lights on Obispo Rey Redondo Street, to witness this event that opens the doors to the long-awaited festivity.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the Lagunera singer Ana Guerra were in charge of pressing the button and giving way to this celebration full of lights, projections, musical accompaniments and a pyrotechnic show, which served as a prelude to the concert offered by the renowned artist on the stage around La Concepción.


Luis Yeray Gutiérrez highlighted that “the lagoon lighting returns strongly this year to place the municipality as the point of reference for Christmas in Tenerife and the Canary Islands, also serving as a great attraction and attraction for our shops and restaurants.” The mayor added that “more and more people are being captivated by our incredible lighting display, which in this edition is made up of some 2,800 LED motifs.”

“This brilliant combination of lights and colors will illuminate our streets during these Christmas dates, starting with the White Night 2023, which we will celebrate this Saturday, from 11 a.m. until dawn, together with our citizens,” recalled the Lagunero mayor.

Likewise, the mayor highlighted the “enormous effort and hours of work” that have been invested by the Effico company to make this “magical night” a reality and assured that “San Cristóbal de La Laguna is a city and a municipality which constantly reinvents itself to continue attracting quality visitors, also in winter, with the aim of being a reference on the islands in areas such as culture, gastronomy, history or heritage, all wrapped in a unique atmosphere and this spectacular decoration”, he concluded.

The artist Ana Guerra thanked the City Council for the invitation to share this long-awaited lighting by the La Laguna population, at the same time she wished happy holidays to all the families of the municipality.

Once the speeches were over, the traditional countdown began and the moment of lighting illuminated the excited faces of the crowd present, especially those of the youngest. A display of fireworks filled the sky of La Laguna with color, officially welcoming one of the times that arouses the most excitement among the population.


The pointed arch on Obispo Rey Redondo Street, so immortalized by thousands of visitors during these dates, has been joined by other notable motifs such as the giant tree located in the Plaza del Cristo, another with similar characteristics in the Plaza de la Catedral, the dome installed on Doctor Olivera Street and another large ball located at the entrance to the city in the La Milagrosa area.

In addition, in 2023 there was no shortage of decorations already representative of Laguna Christmas such as the balls and flakes as a photocall, the giant stars, the representation of the nativity scene, gnomes, sleighs, thrones, camels or the striking luminous wings of the Plaza del In advance, this year they will be accompanied by six illuminated angels (two measuring six meters and four measuring more than two meters). On Obispo Rey Redondo Street, new ground-level elements have also been incorporated, which will serve as a support to project lighting on the surrounding walls.

The La Laguna City Council recalled that during the next week, the lighting will be carried out gradually in the different towns and neighborhoods of the municipality, along with other decorative surprises that have yet to be revealed in the city.
