With the arrival of autumn, it also comes to Arona Afternoon of Chestnuts, Sweets and Wine from Valle San Lorenzo. This festive and commercial boosting event that has achieved great popularity after ten years of celebration will take place on December 1, in the middle of the Viva San Andrés Tapa Route, which will take place in the same town between November 30 and December 3.
Afternoon of Chestnuts, Sweets and Wine It is organized by the Department of Economic Promotion and Employment of the Arona City Council, headed by Dácil León, in collaboration with the Urban Commercial Association (ACU) of Valle San Lorenzo, and has the support of the Island Council of Tenerife.
Dácil León explained that this initiative, which has managed to consolidate itself among the municipal events with the best public reception, is part of a strategy to support the commercial and restaurant sector, “an important source of employment and wealth generation that has a direct impact on our population. and in our municipality.”
At the same time, as the councilor has indicated, the event is committed to traditions and to highlight the products of our land, our gastronomy and wine tradition. “For all these reasons, this afternoon coincides with the festival of San Andrés, the date of opening of the wineries and the traditional hauling of pots, an ideal event to share with the family, to pamper the palate and to bet on local commerce and local production.”
Activity program
A professional chestnut farmer will be in charge to ensure that Valle San Lorenzo smells of roasted chestnuts during the afternoon of the first day of December, an aroma that, in addition to whetting your appetite, will set the town in tune with the planned event.
Apart from chestnuts, you can also buy sweets and wines on El Colegio street and in the bridge area (from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.), the latter environment in which this sale will be combined with craft workshops run by of the Training Program in Alternation with Employment (PFAE) Dynamizing Arona. At that same time there will be traveling music and characters animating the streets of the Valle San Lorenzo commercial area.
Likewise, the products that give its name to the event can be purchased at the Valle San Lorenzo Farmer’s Market, which will have extra opening hours that day (from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.) and will be one of the main stages of the Afternoon of Chestnuts, Sweets and Wines.
In addition to workshops, a craft exhibition and tasting of traditional products throughout the day, this market will host a honey tasting from the Mieles de Abona bee farms at 5:30 p.m. And at 6:00 p.m. it will host a cooking master class by the prestigious chefs Alejandro Bello (from the Lajar de Bello restaurant) and Diego Schattenhofer (Taste 1973). They will be followed by a wine tasting from the Reverón Winery (7:30 p.m.) and a chestnut-flavored sponge cake contest (8:00 p.m.).
In parallel, at the Valle San Lorenzo cultural center you can visit the photographic exhibition ‘Wine in the Abona region’ from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., from the Regulatory Council of the Abona Denomination of Origin, whose technician will also offer starting at 6:00 p.m., an informative talk and a wine tasting. This facility will also host two theatrical performances with puppets (the first at 5:30 p.m. and the second an hour later) and a musical performance by the group El Chirato starting at 8:00 p.m.
As a complement, those who decide to spend that afternoon in Valle San Lorenzo will also be able to enjoy the San Andrés Viva Tapa Route, organized by the commercial association of the center with the support of the Department of Economic Promotion, Primary Sector and Employment, and also focused on the traditional seasonal products characteristic of these dates.
