SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, the taxi sector and the town councils of Granadilla and San Miguel de Abona have agreed to declare the South Airport as a sensitive area, which will allow taxis from other municipalities – especially Adeje and Arona – to provide service in the Airport when there are peaks in demand.
This was reported by the president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, after a meeting held with the mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González; the Councilor for Transport of Granadilla de Abona, Carmen Rodríguez, and the representatives of the taxi sector of both municipalities, together with the president of the Canary Islands Taxis Federation, Juan Artiles, and of Tenerife, Francisco Cabrera.
After the meeting, Rosa Dávila expressed her satisfaction with the decision made based on a proposal agreed upon by the aforementioned federation and which has the agreement of the entire taxi sector and the city councils. “We have agreed that the most important thing is that the first thing is to be able to serve visitors and clients. The situation requires that the urgent procedure be declared quickly,” said Dávila, who added that from now on a procedure will be opened hearing and public information period so that everything is “perfectly guaranteed.”
For his part, the president of the Canary Islands Taxi Federation valued the Council’s willingness to carry out the agreement, since “there are other airports in the Canary Islands where there has been no dialogue and things have been done differently and for Unfortunately, instead of solving one problem, we have had two. Here we have done it the other way around.”
In this sense, Artiles explained that the proposal is that the taxis of Granadilla and San Miguel are the ones that will provide the service continuously and, exceptionally, when peak demands are registered, this regime will come into operation once the regulation is approved. Declaring the sensitive area will apply this and not before.
“Later, there will be people in charge at the Airport who will be in charge of the waiting time and evaluating when taxis from other municipalities can load passengers once they have arrived to unload passengers,” he added.
While the Airport is declared a sensitive area, the Mobility Department of the Cabildo has committed to temporarily seeking a procedure while the new regulation regulating the sensitive area comes into force.
