Lighting, fairs and activities planned this Christmas in Santa Cruz de Tenerife



The City Council of Santa Cruz of Tenerife has presented its program activities ahead of the festivities Christmas and Kings with more than 200 events that will take place throughout the municipality until next January 6. Different municipal areas participate in the programming, as well as the five districts of the capital.

The more than 200 musical, cultural and leisure activities planned will begin this Thursday, the 23rd, with the inauguration of the lights on Christmas special, at 7:00 p.m., in the Plaza del Príncipe. The event will be completed with the show Christmas classics, which will include Canarian singers such as Jadel, Claritzel and Chago Melián, who will be joined by the national artist Tamara, and the popular young man Mario Falero, a participant in The voice Kids who, together with the Virgen del Mar school choir, will sing during the lighting moment.

The activities organized by the City Council are mostly free, will take place in the five districts of the capital, and are designed for all ages. Family concerts, musical auditions and recitals, theater performances and art exhibitions, as well as storytelling or children’s workshops complete the calendar of scheduled activities. Folklore parties and musical groups performing Christmas carols will also energize the streets of Santa Cruz during the upcoming Christmas holidays.

Christmas activities program in Santa Cruz

The program includes a wide range of events, such as the traditional concerts of Los Fregolinos and the Military Band in the Plaza del Príncipe. In addition, the Nativity Scene Contest, the Christmas Market, the Living Nativity Scene in the Plaza de la Candelaria, the ACENE children’s choir carol contest, the great New Year’s Eve party or the reception of the Three Wise Men, and the subsequent parade They form a prominent part of the program edited by the Consistory.

Among the new features in the Christmas program, we must highlight the traditional Bethlehem portal, which will be inaugurated on December 12 in the Plaza de La Candelaria, and which on this occasion will have larger dimensions than other years, along with spectacular lighting. In addition, on December 17 at 7:00 p.m., in the Plaza del Príncipe, a gospel concert will be held by the school choirs. On the penultimate day of the year, December 30, the group Los Cantadores will perform on the stage in the Plaza de La Candelaria with the concert Jungle Rhythms.

Among the new features, the Children’s New Year’s Eve also stands out, which will be held on December 31 in La Candelaria Square, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and will feature multiple activities for the little ones.

One more year, the Christmas Market opens its doors in Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena where it will offer artisan and Christmas products. It will be from December 15 to January 6, with hours from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. From December 16 to January 6, gastronomy and music come together at the Gastro Navidad Market Fest, which will feature an extensive concert program, as well as its usual specialized food stands.

The Culture area includes a wide and varied relationship, among which the breastfeeding workshop stands out, in the José Saramago de Añaza library, which will be managed and taught by health professionals responsible for the maternal and child health area of ​​the Health Center of Anaza. The workshop will be held every Wednesday (except the first of each month) until January 2. The Museum of Fine Arts, the Central Municipal Library and the Guimerá Theater complete the activities that the Culture area has scheduled for this Christmas.

For its part, the Development Society organizes Black Week Santa Cruz from November 23 to 27 with special discounts in the commercial sector of the five districts. In addition, the Casa del Carnaval will have a complete program of activities that will start with Plenilunio on December 1, 2 and 3 and will feature guided tours, a craft workshop, and performances by Carnival groups. All these activities have a limit on space and in shifts, so you must reserve a place on-line in the Cultural Activities Registration section.

The Carnival House will continue from December 23 to January 4 with multiple activities aimed at the little ones with craft workshops and a visit from Santa Claus and subsequent letter collection on December 23 starting at 5:00 p.m.

Sports once again has traditional events in the Christmas program with a new edition of the swimming trip San Salitre on January 1, from the Santa Cruz Pier, and which will serve to inaugurate the city’s sports calendar. The Las Teresitas international regatta, where the beach becomes the epicenter of island sailing, hosting an international event in the Optimist modality. The second edition of the inclusive race Santa Cruz of TenerifeMenudos Winter Games, the 3×3 Aikitas Christmas tournament, the Inclusive Sports Gala and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife international junior basketball tournament complete the activities scheduled for Christmas in the city.

Christmas lighting

The lighting involves the installation of more than 2 million LED bulbs. The Christmas assembly will be launched, progressively, in all districts of the municipality until the first week of December. The decorated areas of the city are increasing compared to last year and for this interactive pixelmax technology has been used.

The first deputy mayor and councilor for Public Services, Carlos Tarife, highlighted the economic effort in terms of lighting “which reaches one million two hundred thousand euros and in which all municipalities will be able to enjoy a decoration that this year, between The main novelties will be the lighting of the entire Rambla de Santa Cruz.”

The installation includes 131 arches, 108,760 meters of garlands, 1,365 Christmas motifs and 62 floor elements. Furthermore, the elements chosen for this Christmas adapt to the appearance of each street, square and green space.

On this occasion, the tunnel that runs along the front of the Plaza del Príncipe will be double. Each tunnel is 90 meters long, is made up of 5,000 meters of LED garlands and is equipped with 120,000 light bulbs, 9 meters high.

There are streets equipped with Christmas decorative elements made of engraved methacrylate, there are light ceilings with color changes, the entire Rambla has been illuminated, tall trees, there are light ceilings with color changes and even a photocall.
