Güímar will be very present at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival with the premiere at the grand gala of its young designer Cristian Santana and the queen candidate Rosalva Morales Benítez. But it will also be the debut in our biggest celebrations of a sponsor with as much recognition as the González Canarias Group, which manages eight Repsol gas stations in Tenerife, apart from other companies.
This will not be, by any means, the first time that the Güimarero municipality is present at the Chicharrero Carnival, because the presence of the renowned designer Juan Carlos Armas is common, who this year will once again present a candidate, in this case, Nancy González Bethencourt, as well as various choreographic groups.
Cristian Santana himself, who is making his debut at the adult gala, already has experience, with several titles achieved with candidates for senior and children’s queen, “but it is clear that a suit for the grand adult gala is another world,” he explains. who sucks the party before he started walking: “Many nights I accompanied my mother, in the back of the car, to pick up my father from the murga, until he got his driver’s license.” This is Cristian de Falo Santana, now deceased, one of the founders of Los Bombones. “There he began to instill in me the Carnival bug, but I was more drawn to the troupes, to the design.”
Rosalva Morales, 23 years old, graduated in Psychology and dance teacher, began her career in beauty pageants in her native municipality six years ago, being a lady of the San Pedro Festival and is currently the Major Romera in the festivals in honor to San Antonio Abad. “I love Carnival and I am very excited since Cristian proposed that I be his candidate.”

Both are grateful for the fundamental support of the González Group: “It is not easy to convince a company these days, and although I have been behind them since 2014, they finally accepted something that has never been their area. I thank José Miguel, José, Miriam and Aaron, and Oliver who works at El Volcán because they have made my great dream possible,” commented Cristian Santana, who also thanks the mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez, for freeing him up these months. of his work as trusted personnel in the municipal Culture area, to “dedicate myself exclusively to the work of the suit, also grateful to my sister Yanira, my uncle Tito for the structure of the suit and my entire team, almost 20 people.” For him, the fact that there are only 11 candidates on February 7, “gives us more possibilities to achieve the reign, we give ourselves to that.”

Lots of feathers, sequins, mirrors and big headdress
As is normal, little is known about the fantasy that Rosalva will wear on February 7, but Cristian tells us that “it will have feathers, many feathers and meters of sequins and mirrors to be glued with silicone and a large headdress”, all within the limits : 4.5 meters high, 5 meters wide and 6 meters deep, “which we are going to squeeze as much as possible,” says Cristian Santana.
