SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Children and Families of the Canary Islands Government, Candelaria Delgado, reiterates this Monday the need to urgently convene the Sectoral Conference on Immigration, after the cancellation of said meeting scheduled for this Monday.
In this sense, it has announced that it will request meetings with the new heads of the ministries of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030; of Children and Youth, and of Social Security and Migration Policies to address an aspect that, he specified, is vital for the Canary Islands.
The counselor has described as “bad news” the cancellation of the Sectoral Immigration Conference, which, she noted, had not been convened for five years and which was scheduled after the unanimous request of all the communities because she understands that “it is the forum where the autonomous communities and “the Ministry must make decisions and agreements on migration issues.”
Likewise, he expressed his confidence that the new Minister of Social Security and Migration Policy, Elma Saiz, will summon her as soon as possible and reach the necessary agreements that the Canary Islands “need right now in immigration policy.”
Candelaria Delgado ruled out the argument of the lack of quorum as a justification for canceling the meeting and recalled that in the case of other meetings of this type, such as sectoral and territorial commissions, they are carried out online or mixed, a procedure that, she explained , could have been used in this case instead of calling off such an important meeting for the Canary Islands.
On the other hand, the counselor emphasized the need to take measures and advance regarding basic aspects of immigration matters.
In this sense, he referred to “the creation of a stable reception network for unaccompanied foreign minors throughout the national territory so that we can more quickly make the referrals that are now under the exclusive guardianship of the Canary Islands.”
Candelaria Delgado also pointed out that another priority focuses on “the establishment of a single command that allows procedures to be streamlined and does not have to meet with different ministries, depending on the area of competence of each of them.”
The counselor also referred to the need to activate the Civil Protection Mechanism of the European Union, a measure that, she recalled, has already been requested from the Ministry on various occasions and that, she specified, “would allow better action in the face of migratory surges.” that there is in the Canary Islands”.
