The Cabildo of Tenerife, through the Youth and Training area, collaborates in the celebration of the ‘International Festival of Independent and Authored Cinema of the Canary Islands’ (FICINDIE), whose third edition includes 18 activities scheduled in various locations on the islands of Tenerife , La Palma and Gran Canaria.

Specifically, FICINDIE will take place from November 22 to 26 in Tenerife under the direction of Rumen Justo Reyes and will have the participation of renowned industry professionals, including Soledad Lagos, Daniel Feixas Roca, Fátima Luzardo, Daniel Álava, Anatael Pérez , Natalia Valls, Charo Palmero and Jorge Guimerá.

The presentation event held this Thursday was attended by the Minister of Youth and Training, Serafín Mesa, and the director of FICINDIE, Rumen Justo Reyes.

Mesa explained that the objective is to promote “young talent” through a festival that has a “different bet from the conventional.”

“Tenerife has a natural and ideal setting due to its characteristics and aesthetics and there are many young people with ideas and talent who have an opportunity to show their work. In addition, FICINDIE is a showcase to publicize the advantages of the audiovisual ecosystem in the Canary Islands and attract new productions that benefit us,” he noted.

For his part, Rumen Justo Reyes indicated that the festival is a firm commitment to improving the socioeconomic fabric of the islands through training aimed at entrepreneurship in the audiovisual sector, a strategic sector for the Canary Islands.

“In our festival we will be able to train future filmmakers and producers from our region through totally practical learning, with innovative ‘indie labs’ and education of the filmmaker’s perspective. In addition, it will be possible to obtain a university accreditation, something unique and pioneering. This festival It will allow our youth to learn and undertake from ‘cinema with soul,'” he said.

The objective of FICINDIE is to publicize the importance and relevance of independent and author cinema worldwide and to have the Canary Islands, and specifically the municipality of La Laguna as a World Heritage Site, as a relevant place for the development of the independent film activity.

The films will be presented through the filmfreeway and moviebeta platforms, which ensures a specialized audience and a target of almost 90% of filmmakers worldwide.

The objective is to reach some 3.7 million people through both platforms, according to a note from the Cabildo.
