Parliament invests 1.1 million in a new office of the Common Council

lto the office of the Common Council of Tenerife It will move to a 400 square meter building from 1930, located on Calle del Castillo in the capital of Tenerife.a, once the rehabilitation works are completed, which will last 18 months and have a budget of 1,140,000 euros.

«This action will allow the Diputación del Común, an organization attached to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, has modern and adequate facilities in Tenerife for the very important work it carries out. We are talking about a building with almost a hundred years of existence, which requires a significant investment to be able to adapt it to the needs of accessibility, equipment, energy efficiency and services of a public organization of the 21st century, but also respecting its original architectural values,” he explained. the president of the regional parliament, Astrid Perez, during the visit he made to the property, together with the Common Deputy, Rafael Yanes; the mayor of the capital of Tenerife, Jose Manuel Bermudezand the architect responsible for the project, Maribel Correa.

For the president of the Chamber, “it is important to thank the Santa Cruz City Council for the transfer of this property for a period of 50 years and the work carried out by the previous president of the Parliament of Canary Islands, Gustavo Matos, for the processing of this project. In his opinion, “it will be invested in something that is very important: the conservation and rehabilitation of the heritage of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.”

Maribel Correa highlighted the historical value of the building and noted that, when work begins, “the works will have an estimated duration of 18 months.” Two of the keys to the project are to recover the central patio as “a space of light.” The entrance will be through Castillo Street – where a ancient bookstore – to give “more packaging” to the headquarters and the bays of the building will be respected. The architect highlighted as the “most complicated” the work to create telecommunications, an elevator, an evacuation staircase or the air conditioning and firefighting systems. In addition, she pointed out that a good part of the building’s core will be recovered and reinforced.

Rafael Yanes pointed out that “this is an important day because the possibility of finally having a public building for the Provincial Council in Santa Cruz de Tenerife begins.” For its part, José Manuel Bermúdez added that “from the first moment we thought that this property met all the conditions to become the new offices of this institution”, both due to its location and its heritage values. Yanes specified that the official headquarters of the Common Council will remain in Santa Cruz de The Palmas stated in the Statute of Autonomy, and has offices in the two Canary Islands capitals.
