The Güímar City Council announces the creation of a public commercial company with the aim of directly managing some municipal services. Called Empresa Pública de Güímar SA, its corporate purpose will be the management of street cleaning, waste collection and treatment. The intention of the Corporation is to provide it with a broad corporate purpose, so that it can assume other services.
This measure is one of the main agreements that they negotiated DC, PSOE and USP to form the municipal government. The mayor, Gustavo Pérez, highlights that “we cannot continue with the precariousness of cleaning services in this municipality. This action guarantees us more resources and control straight to face the problem of garbage and waste, in addition to guaranteeing the job stability of those who are providing the service today. Currently, we are doing tests with municipal workers in various areas of the municipality.
The tripartite explains that it is advancing in the constitution of the municipal company. To do this, it ensures that it has external advice from a company specialized in this type of procedures. According to José Miguel Hernández, Councilor for General Administration and Governance, “the advice focuses on legal, economic and technical support on the constitution of the commercial company and the direct management of the aforementioned public services. In addition to the preparation of economic studies and analyzes that are required for the constitution of the company.
Municipal officials agree that they are working to ensure that the public company start trading “as soon as possible” and they insist that it will be 100% owned by the Güímar City Council. The Councilor for Rural Development, Nayra Caraballero, highlights that “the remunicipalization of services is a priority. “The fact that the constitution process is already underway allows us to plan and make decisions about the management of services for the future.”
