The spokesman for the Canarian Coalition leaves the La Laguna City Council to facilitate an agreement with the PSOE

The spokesperson for the Canary Coalition (CC) in the City Council of La Laguna (Tenerife), Jonathan Domínguez, sent a letter this Monday to the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez (PSOE), in which he communicates his resignation from the councilor’s act in the face of an appointment as deputy councilor of the Government of the Canary Islands, scheduled in principle for the Government Council this Monday.

In the letter, to which Europa Press has had access, Domínguez shows his “gratitude” to all the staff of the council after 16 years of political activity, emphasizing that he has learned “a lot” in the corporation and that he has obtained an “immense encyclopedia.” of knowledge, skills, learning, experiences and, above all, great friendships.”

He has acknowledged that it is “very sad” for him to hand over the councilor’s certificate because “fighting for La Laguna and its people” has been the hallmark of his political life, but he understands that “it is time to make decisions” and carry out his work where he feels “useful.” for citizens, in this case in the Government of the Canary Islands.

“With this writing, in addition to resigning from my position as a councilor, I want to convey this heartfelt gratitude to all the people who make possible the very existence of the La Laguna City Council as a local administration and institution, and the provision of its services to improve life. of the people, for whom I will always be willing to work responsibly, and in the conviction that in the future we will meet again,” concludes the resignation letter.

Domínguez’s departure accelerates the negotiations between PSOE and CC to sign a government pact in the municipality that would protect the absolute majority with a total of 18 councilors, an agreement that would be included in the investiture pact between socialists and nationalists.

Although the Canary Coalition denied that any measure had been agreed regarding town councils or corporations in the Islands when signing the pact with the PSOE for the investiture of Pedro Sánchez, this resignation comes only three days later and opens the door for nationalists and socialists to form a government team in the second most important city of Tenerife.

In fact, a few days ago Rubens Ascanio, spokesperson for Unidas Se Podemos in La Laguna (a party that facilitated the PSOE to govern in the city) commented on social networks that “there were Laguneros on the candy tray of the agreement.”
