The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife presented the awards this Monday Puertos de Tenerife Awards for Excellence in Occupational Risk Preventionwhich have fallen to the port companies Petrocan, Ascanio Química SA and Terminal de Conteneres de Tenerife SAU
The event was chaired by the head of the Port Authority, Pedro Suárez, who praised “the good practices in occupational health and safety carried out by the winners” and highlighted the “advance of this field, in which there has been a change of thinking, with greater involvement on the part of companies and their workers.”
Specifically, Petróleos de Canarias (Petrocan) won the award in the category of Port Services Provider Company; Ascanio Química SA, in the category of Authorized or Concessionaire Companies, and, as a novelty for this edition, the award for the category of Healthy Company, which fell to Tenerife Container Terminal, SAU
After the awards ceremony, the representatives of each organization agreed that this recognition is another incentive to continue working on the health and well-being of their workers.
Specifically, the director of Petrocan, Luis Ruiz Pasquau, stated that “we take safety as a personal responsibility”, to which he added that “we apply best practices ensuring that safety and risk management are controlled before starting any work. ”
For her part, the director of Ascanio Química, Luz Marina Ascanio, highlighted
especially the importance of mental health to which “we must give more importance to the point of assessing whether the worker can perform his role, as well as offering him the necessary resources to cope with his work.”
Finally, José Ignacio Uriarte, manager of the Tenerife Container Terminal, stated that “we are taking an important step, not only as a responsible company in preventive issues, but also as a healthy company, embracing new challenges in this area.”
Precisely, Puertos de Tenerife is certified as a Healthy Company and has integrated into its Occupational Risk Prevention a healthy organization management system (SIGOS), granted by Aenor International.
