He Tenerife Council will enhance the training, innovation and gastronomic promotion of the Island through an agreement with the prestigious Basque Culinary Center (BCC), the gastronomic temple of the Basque Country and a world reference. The document, signed through Tourism of Tenerife, seeks to promote excellence in the local sector with the support of the experience and level of the Euskadi academy. This institution It will train 25 professionals online and will teach eight face-to-face courses.
The document signed with the Basque center contemplates the development for one year of a complete training program aimed at professional talent on the Island, as well as innovation and the promotion of local cuisine products.
The agreement with the BCC is the product of the strategy established in the Gastronomy and Tourism Master Plan approved in 2017. A roadmap developed together with private entities and associations that aims to strengthen island gastronomy and its value chain (producers, distributors, restaurateurs, etc.) due to its connection with the territory and its crucial relevance as an attraction tourist.
The CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, points out: «This agreement will serve to be more competitive, and maintain the power in promoting it as a cutting-edge destination at a gastronomic level. We intend to prioritize cultural identity, sustainability, product quality and excellence of professional talent.
The counselor of the Primary Sector and Animal Welfare, Valentín González, highlights that “with this link we value the Island by uniting gastronomy, the tourist sector and the primary sector.” He delves into “putting the work of our ranchers, farmers, fishermen and beekeepers on the front line, with their quality products. “This agreement opens an exciting path.”
The director of Masters and Courses at the Basque Culinary Center, Idoia Calleja, states that “from our 360º vision of gastronomy we want contribute to the development of the sector in Tenerife». A challenge, he adds, “to promote economic and social development, delighted to collaborate with powerful assets in talent, training and innovation.”
The first of the axes of the agreement contemplates training actions in the improvement of professional training, through online training aimed at 25 people, and eight face-to-face courses in different areas of the Island. The second line is focused on innovation from the BCC Innovation technology center to improve relations between the primary sector and the restaurant sector. Within the promotional action, Tenerife will be the protagonist of some gastronomic days for the students of the Basque center with a sample of the best of its cuisine.
