He Santa Cruz City Council communicates the suspension of Trace before the celebration this Sunday, November 12, of the International Marathon, which will be held through the streets of the capital, since it has been determined that all roads affected by the route of this sporting event will be closed to traffic at 8:00 am: 00 hours that same day.
The usual Santa Cruz market, located between Avenida Marítima and Avenida de la Constitución, will not be able to open as a result of an extensive security and traffic device that will be launched on Sunday due to the celebration of this new edition, in which it is planned the participation of 4,000 runners. The Santa Cruz Rastro will reopen on Sunday, November 19 at its usual hours.
During Sunday, the entire test route and some adjacent roads must be closed to traffic shortly before 8:00 a.m. While tomorrow, Saturday, it will be necessary to eliminate traffic between Francisco La Roche Avenue and the Tres de Mayo Avenue roundabout from 4:00 p.m., a mandatory measure to allow the installation of all the equipment and structures necessary for the development. of the marathon.
The planned itinerary will start on Francisco La Roche Avenue, Via Litoral tunnel, Marítima Avenue, Constitución Avenue, Fomento Street next to the Regla Hermitage; Vicente Álvarez Pedreira streets, Adán Martín Menis, Celia Cruz, Manuel Hermoso Rojas avenue; Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez and Áurea Díaz Flores streets. You will continue along La Salle Avenue; Galcerán, Méndez Núñez and San Isidro streets.
In this edition, due to the works being carried out on La Rosa street, a small modification of the route has been planned, deviating along a section of Santiago street and returning to La Rosa street via Señor de Las Tribulaciones street. From La Rosa you will continue along Valentín Sanz, Serrador Bridge, capital Market roundabout; José Hernández Alfonso street; Leoncio Rodríguez and Bravo Murillo avenue to the Plaza de España; continuing through La Marina and República de Honduras streets.
In the medium and long distance, continue in the direction of Anaga Avenue and the road to San Andrés, reaching the Fishing Dock, from where the return to the finish area begins, while the athletes who complete the marathon, after passing at the finish line on Avenida Francisco La Roche, they will begin a second lap of the route. Regarding the popular race, eight kilometers long, it will start at 11:30 a.m. from Francisco La Roche Avenue, passing through the most urban part of the capital circuit.
Just over a hundred members of the Local Police will participate in the deployment; supported by staff from the capital’s Civil Protection volunteer group and authorized assistants from the test organization itself. The participation of other Civil Protection groups from various municipalities is also expected to reinforce the operation. The Advanced Command Post (PMA) from where all security and emergency resources will be coordinated will once again be installed on flat Francisco La Roche Avenue.
Important for Sunday
Next Sunday, one lane will be enabled in each direction of traffic on the San Andrés highway, to facilitate access and exit to the different neighborhoods and towns of Anaga. It is also planned that the auxiliary road of the Port of Tenerife will remain open to traffic, between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The objective is for it to be an alternative for vehicles that use that axle in both directions. Also to connect the city with Anaga, in both directions of traffic, the Ramblas de Santa Cruz road can be used.
One issue to take into account is the possible exit from the private garages of the properties located within the perimeter of the marathon route. In these cases, efforts will be made to collaborate to carry out this maneuver, whenever possible, and following the instructions of the personnel who perform test control functions.
Parking bans
For the development of this event it is necessary to prohibit parking in various parts of the city. From 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, the first limitations will begin to be in force in the area of Francisco La Roche Avenue, surface lane, and from 12:00 no vehicles will be able to circulate. Also on Saturday, starting at 2:00 p.m., parking is prohibited and, starting at 4:00 p.m., traffic is prohibited on Francisco La Roche Avenue, in the section between La Marina and República de Honduras streets. At that time, it is planned to cut off vehicle access to the Vía Litoral tunnel, in the north direction, at the confluence of Marítima Avenue and San Sebastián Avenue, diverting traffic to Tres de Mayo Avenue.
On Saturday, from 6:00 p.m., the possibility of parking is eliminated on Méndez Núñez, San Isidro streets, a section of Santiago street (between San Vicente Ferrer and Santa Rosalía), Señor de Las Tribulaciones street, La Rosa street, The Navy and Republic of Honduras. Identical day, but from 10:00 p.m., this limitation is extended to Leoncio Rodríguez streets (between José Hernández Alfonso and José Manuel Guimerá Gurrea), Regla hermitage, Vicente Álvarez Pedreira and Celia Cruz streets.
Regarding Sunday, all parking limitations will be in force from 00:00 hours and will extend, predictably, until 14:00 hours when the test is already in its final phase, although some of the roads will remain closed for a little longer. security reasons and dismantling of facilities. On Sunday, starting at 00:00, parking will be prohibited in: Plaza de España, Anaga Avenue, the parking lots in front of the Valleseco neighborhood, close to the hydrocarbon deposit area; Bravo Murillo Avenue; El Pilar street (between Suárez Guerra and San Clemente) and Villalba Hervás street (between José Murphy and San Francisco), excepting autotaxis from this prohibition.
Traffic cuts to ensure safety
The traffic cutoff points that day will be from Constitución Avenue to Pedro Maffiote, Celia Cruz and Manuel Hermoso streets; also the entrance through Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez, Áurea Díaz Flores streets. Traffic from Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue will be diverted towards the Juan Sebastián Elcano roundabout to continue towards Constitución Avenue or the Penetration Road (TF-4) heading south.
The entire axis of La Salle Avenue, Galcerán, Weyler Square will also be closed to traffic, preventing passage from Ramón y Cajal Street to that area, diverting traffic to the Ramblas de Santa Cruz area. It will also not be possible to circulate on Méndez Núñez Street, even affecting access from adjacent roads; The streets San Isidro, La Rosa, Valentín Sanz, and General Serrador Bridge will also be closed, establishing the possible exit of vehicles also towards Las Ramblas. For security reasons, it is also prohibited to circulate on San Sebastián Avenue, between the Mercado and Bravo Murillo Avenue, as well as La Marina and República de Honduras streets.
Changes in public transport
The celebration of this event will mean the alteration of the usual routes of some urban lines of the TITSA bus service from Saturday, although the service will be maintained with some modifications to stops, which will be facilitated in cases such as those located in Cueva Bermeja, Valleseco and Maria Jimenez. Although some taxi stops have been eliminated, the main ones that will be operational in the area or nearby will be those on Pilar, Villalba Hervás, General Gutiérrez and Carlos JR Hamilton streets.
Regarding the tram service, it must be remembered that, starting at 08:00 and until the intersection of Bravo Murillo Street and Imeldo Serís Street can be opened to traffic, it will only circulate between the stops on Trinidad Avenue, from La Laguna, and to the Plaza de La Paz in the Tenerife capital, so during that period the stops at Plaza Weyler, Teatro Guimerá, Fundación and Intercambiador will not be operational.
The Santacrucera Traffic Control Room will also be operational to solve or detect any problem related to the entrances and exits of the city, as well as the management of the security bollards and the Urban zone. All information regarding parking prohibition times and zones will be disseminated through mailings in the areas most affected by these modifications.
