The Cabildo of Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands have laid the foundations to establish a common economic strategy, which serves to boost the island’s economy and which includes lines of joint work related to the development of industrial estates, the circular economy, self-employed and the energy situation of the island.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, and the vice president, Lope Afonso, received today Thursday at the Insular Palace the vice president and counselor of Economy, Commerce and Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez.
Rosa Dávila stated that they have addressed the situation of sectors that are strategic for the island’s economy, such as the blue economy or the circular economy, which “will help us in our commitment to relaunch Tenerife”, to which she added that another aspect What they addressed was the situation of industrial zones, which “we intend to promote, as spaces that generate stable and quality employment.”
The president assured that they are concerned about the way in which Tenerife “has lost political and economic weight in the Canary Islands as a whole during the last four years”, and in this regard she highlighted that thanks to the strategy that the Government of the Canary Islands is currently deploying , and within this framework of collaboration, they believe that Tenerife “can once again have the economic role it once had, laying the foundations for a new economy that allows us to improve the quality of life of Tenerife residents.”
The vice president and counselor of Economy, Commerce and Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, pointed out that at this meeting they have invited the Cabildo of Tenerife to participate in the development project for the industrial estates of the Canary Islands that the Ministry is going to propose to the town councils and councils that understand it as a preferential action.
Domínguez announced that, in relation to the circular economy, he has informed the Cabildo of his intention to project the production of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), with the aim of combating emission rights, which produces a loss of competitiveness in the Tenerife tourism sector. especially for flights with our main source markets”.
Finally, the vice president of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, described the meeting as “very productive” and positively valued that issues such as well-being and employment were addressed, since “they are two very important aspects that can only be achieved through the revitalization of the economy, of our productive sectors”.
Afonso highlighted that they addressed the leadership role that the tourism sector maintains in Tenerife: “We are the island that attracts the most visits, and therefore, the one that generates the most economic activity in this area, which serves as a driving effect for other sectors. of the economy”.
He also recalled that the Cabildo “has begun the process for the approval of its budget, which contemplates very important investments for the economic sphere, but we also need the public investment that the Government of the Canary Islands can provide”, and on this he concluded that the The best way to boost the economy, from public administration, “is the ability to execute the budget, injecting resources into the real economy.”
