The deputy of the Socialist Parliamentary Group for Tenerife, Patricia Hernández, yesterday brought to the plenary session of the regional Chamber the threat of unjustified eviction of more than 200 vulnerable families from the Añaza neighborhood of the Tenerife capital and demanded that the Government of the Canary Islands “stop behaving like vulture funds”, to which the nationalist deputy and mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, replied that they are studying case by case the situation of the affected families.
Hernández intervened in a question from the Socialist Group about the reason why Visocan is sending letters to the neighbors of the 358 homes in Añaza asking them to hand over the keys and leave the homes, initiating eviction processes.
In his appearance, he also denounced the lack of sensitivity of the public company for the promotion of protected housing of the Government of the Canary Islands for evicting these families without justification.
The Minister of Housing, Pablo Rodríguez, expressed his surprise at the socialist deputy’s question, because this issue has been “entrenched” since 2019, when Visocan bought the homes from the bank that owned them and problems arose that were not resolved in these four years, he added.
Hernández referred to the letter signed this past October in which they were warned that the rental contract ends on February 4 of next year. “You tell them to leave, to leave with their children and hand over the keys, despite the fact that they had their contracts in force and their vulnerable situation,” he said.
In this sense, he recalled that some families are being asked to pay rent, when that commitment would have to be covered by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council according to the agreement signed in 2019, when Social Services guaranteed economic coverage for vulnerable families. , and insisted that Visocan’s letter reflects that Visocan has not received the monthly payments that it was responsible for paying to the capital’s City Council. “So look the other way to get your debts paid,” he said.
In addition, the deputy denounced the existence of a Visocan order to carry out an eviction of a family with minors who is collecting the Minimum Living Income. “It is not the only one we know, you have acted on all fronts. Where are those statements from you, from Fernando Clavijo and from the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, to buy the homes to give peace of mind to the 358 families?” Hernández questioned.
The counselor replied to Hernández that he should ask his questions “on his bench,” and reiterated that “the situation” is different, since there are people with a contract who pay their rent “religiously” with the help of the City Council, others owe a monthly payment and There are some who refused to sign the contract in 2019 and occupied the homes.
In this regard, he stated that the Ministry is summoning these families “to give them the opportunity to sign the contract.”
