The Mobility area of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has reported a 47.3% increase in the use of urban buses in the first ten months of this year, compared to the same period in 2022, up to 11.3 millions of travelers.
“This is news that confirms the success of this Corporation in betting on public transport, with new lines, schedules and frequencies, which favor mobility and greater fluidity in access to the urban center, as well as reducing CO2 emissions. , another of the priority objectives,” the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, indicated in a statement.
He also added that the Government group “continues with its efforts and work to maintain the momentum of the city’s urban public transport, a service in which an investment exceeding 13 million euros is made each year.”
Furthermore, Bermúdez recalled that “this commitment to public transport in Santa Cruz is, comparatively, the most important of those carried out in urban areas in the Canary Islands”, arguing that “the improvements in frequencies, schedules and new night lines have meant add another 690,000 euros per year, in addition to the new, more sustainable buses and the gradual renewal of the fleet.
Meanwhile, the Councilor for Mobility, Evelyn Alonso, highlighted that “from January of this year until last October 31, there has been an increase of 3,662,216 passengers on urban bus lines compared to the same period of the year. year 2022”.
For this reason, he insisted that “we must continue promoting public transport, one of the main lines of the Mobility Department, whose commitment has been made clear in 2023 with the budget expansion, approved at the beginning of the year, and which means having adapted the offer to the needs raised by the users themselves and transferred to the Titsa company”.
Among the data provided by the concessionaire company of the urban transport service in Santa Cruz, a total of 11,407,964 passengers used the lines of the capital of Tenerife until October of this year, compared to the 7,745,748 who did so in the same period of the previous year.
Therefore, Titsa has transported more than one million passengers on its urban lines every month since March of this year, with increases of more than 50% each month since July, compared to the same month of the previous year.
Thus, in March 2023, 1,211,4663 passengers traveled on the buses of the capital’s urban service compared to the 781,330 who did so in the same month of 2022, which represents an increase of 54.6%.
This trend continued in the following months until reaching 1,210,894 travelers last July (+50.9%); which was followed by August, with 1,163,023 users (+55.4%); 1,253,585 (+53.2%), in September, and 1,314,085 until October 31 of this year, which represents an increase of 50.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
