They were born on the same day Eleanor of Bourbonalthough after the young woman who today the Constitution is sworn in. Adrián three hours and nine minutes later than Princess of Asturias and Daniela in the thirteen hours and forty-six minutes following Queen Letizia’s first birth. He, in a delivery room Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital [con un peso de 3.650 gramos y 50 centímetros de altura]and she in the Canary Islands University Hospital [pesó 3.950 gramos y midió 50 centímetros]. The two “stronger” than the lady cadet of the General Military Academy (AGM). And the eldest daughter of Felipe VI, who came into the world at the Ruber Clinic in Madrid, weighed 3,540 kilograms and measured 47 centimeters.
Leonor’s fifth Tenerife residents, then, They turn 18 todaya coming of age that catches them taking the first course of Criminology, in the case of the Lagunera Daniela Diaz Delgadoand of Computer Engineering degreein the tacorontero Adrián Castro Rodríguez. She is the youngest daughter of the house [su hermana Valeria ya tiene 23 años] and he is the eldest of two brothers [Saúl aún tiene 15]. The young woman completed her pre-university studies at the IES La Laboral de La Laguna and the boy in the IES Viera y Clavijo, also in the City of the Advanced. Daniela ccombines his studies with theater and musicAdrián plays as a forward on a basketball team and, according to him, he is not bad at all.
The studies rule
Adrián is the first child of a marriage formed by two workers in a large commercial area. Ana is a cashier and Iván is a market manager. Daniela’s parents carry out their work duties as billing administrator (Sofía) and forklift driver (Juan Pedro). Now her big priority is her studies. They both know that the situation out there is more than just “screwed” and they are in no rush to form. “I know that I can stay at my parents’ house until I can consolidate my future,” the young man thanks without downplaying the importance of this gesture; “That gives me more peace of mind to acquire the knowledge on which to base my professional future.”
She also knows she is making a long-term investment that she began building during the pandemic. “The confinement allowed me to focus on my studies and complete the courses that gave me access to university.” Both Daniela and Adrián understand that now is her time. “I play basketball, but studies always come first,” claims a young man who is not bad at squeezing his elbows. “Now I can combine it, but in my head it is not about dedicating myself to professional sports, but rather acquiring all the tools that allow me to be the best in the activity I want to do.” What he doesn’t know yet is where his work roots are anchored. “I study to be good here or wherever they want to hire me,” she adds at a moment in the conversation in which Daniela does not rule out having to find her way far from the Canary Islands. “If I end up specializing in criminology, the normal thing is that there will be more work outside the Islands.”
-That can be fixed, right? [le trasladamos en la conversación].
-There is always an opportunity to carry out an order so as not to have to leave Tenerife. [responde ella entre risas Daniela].
Adrián is aware that in such a global world “it is always necessary to have your suitcase on hand for whatever may happen.” That is the reason why he has decided to make it his goal to learn German. “It is a country that usually gives a lot of scope to the youngest, but you have to prepare well.” French, which is a language that is on the itinerary of the current study plans, is controlled because the exams have to be passed. Daniela comes from the literature branch [mixtas] and Adrián is from pure sciences. He confesses to being a good reader [género de fantasía, thriller e incluso novela negra] and she admits to being a declared fan of the Marvel universe and Iron Man: “I read less literature, but I am interested in everything that has to do with superheroes, especially those from Marvel more than those from DC Comics…” , clarifies without falling into fanaticism. The tacorontero, for his part, is a born consumer of sports content. He follows, of course, CD Tenerife and Lenovo, but he has a certain fondness for the football and basketball sections of Barça. There will be better days, for sure!
“Children” of AI
The emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), by far, is one of the issues that most worries young people like the protagonists of this report. Adrián and Daniela assume that it is impossible to put a stop to a reality that is advancing uncontrollably in search of greater prominence. “There is still a lot to do, but there is the future,” he advances about a debate that she focuses on a more creative vision: “Artists assume that AI will not create things with the sensitivity that a human being brings to it, but this is something that has come to stay,” explains the Lagunera at a moment in the debate in which her adventure companion indicates that “AI is capable of doing very authentic things without having to replace us because it is something that can add ; a scenario that has not yet shown us what its true potential is,” warns Adrián.
Their relationship with social networks is another of the most common debates in which Tenerife residents who are coming of age today engage. Adrián has an Instagram account and Daniela, in addition to the American application and social network owned by Meta, also usually appears on Twitter [ahora X], but not on Tik Tok: “I don’t like its content,” censors the “owner” of a cell phone who has lived with her since 6th grade. Adrián has had one for a few years, although he doesn’t exactly define the time… Like most teenagers [y un alto porcentaje de adultos] There is a certain dependence on this telephone device, although he claims that he is able to “survive without it.” “We have gotten used to having it in our lives but I think that if we tried we could get away from it a bit,” he says while commenting that he is already doing internships to obtain a driving license after passing the theoretical exam.
Although he is not yet 18 years old, Adrián has a more or less clear idea of the serious mobility problems that exist on the Island. «My practical teacher, who is not from Tenerife, does not understand why people do not protest more because the situation is unsustainable,” criticizes a victim without a driving license who already knows firsthand what a good traffic jam is. If we add to that the fact that he lives in a place where bus connections are not the best, the computer science student is clear. «Now I depend on the line passing on time or not being too full because there are only two possible options to enter the university on time: either it arrived 15 minutes before classes start, at best, or the delay “It can last up to three-quarters of an hour,” he explains about a difficulty that Adriana does not have. «I live in the center of La Laguna and, fortunately, I can get around on foot from one place to another. In that sense, I do not suffer from the formation of long queues at the TF-5.
They share a date of birth with the future Queen of Spain and, therefore, today they come of age. Tenerife residents Daniela and Adrián tell their concerns and dreams.
Neither Adrián nor Daniela are oblivious to the pressure of growing with the aim of meeting goals. “I know they are there, but I prefer to live day to day, focus on what I have to do right now,” claims the first without ignoring that the daughter of Felipe VI and Letizia is indeed watched by millions of eyes. “Someday she will reign, but now she is still a young woman just like us.” Daniela, a confessed monarchist, experiences in a different way everything that surrounds Leonor de Borbón in this crazy October [jura de bandera, desfile del 12O, presidencia de los Premios Princesa de Asturias y la jura de la Constitución], but he has faith in her: “She will do well because she is preparing to take on a great responsibility.” No one hides the fact that the heiress is given special treatment, but all that life implies many responsibilities. We do not know if Infanta Sofía’s older sister drinks or smokes [no hay noticias de que eso sea así], but both Adrián and Daniela have revealed in this improvised “interrogation” that they neither drink alcoholic beverages nor taste tobacco. They both consider themselves “healthy people.”
Your political concerns
But Daniela and Adrián’s coming of age is tied to the possibility of being able to vote for the first time in the next elections. “It’s something that I don’t have among my priorities right now,” he summarizes. Her case, however, is completely the opposite: Daniela seems willing to vote “as many times as necessary.” [no descarten aún nada en la carrera de obstáculos abierta por lograr la presidencia del ejecutivo nacional] because he believes that “it is a right that young people must begin to assume to try to change the things that are not going well.” Regarding the supposed sloppiness that our elders attribute to generations like that of 2005, the aspiring computer scientist considers that “generalizing is something too simple that, sometimes, leads us to make calculation errors. “I, for example, do not think that I am part of a social segment that cares little or nothing about the things that happen around me,” he emphasizes when we ask for a “photograph” of the group of friends with whom he usually moves. “We are only a few days old and we have consolidated the relationship during our high school years… We all have our dreams, but we want to enjoy the moment a little more without leaving aside obligations that are now linked to our studies.” From the comments that Daniela makes, she gives the impression of being part of a group of friends, more or less like the previous one, in which the commitment and loyalty of its members is one of the best strongholds. “They say that I am a good friend, one of those that she is always with,” she boasts in the final part of this meeting. “I don’t know the reason, but after the pandemic I go out much less.”
The migration phenomenon
The immense migratory flow that is being generated between Africa and the Islands is, of course, another of the appendages that appear on the table when we are heading into the final stretch. “For me it doesn’t affect me,” says Daniela. “I know it’s something that’s happening, but it doesn’t affect my life.” Adrián does decide to go one step further to open a curious reflection. «We almost always worry more about knowing things that happen in the place they arrive [si hay o no plazas en centros, cuántos han podido desaparecer o morir en la travesía o las habituales cifras que se asocian a un cayuco] and even less at the point of origin of those people… There is a certain skepticism around a drama that does not stop,” he qualifies, turning around the idea that it is “hard for us to understand why they do it and that is part of the problem.” These, more or less, are the thoughts that coexist daily in the heads of young people like Leonor de Borbón, the woman who they mold at full speed and without pause to turn her into a worthy replacement for Felipe VI.
