Rosa Dávila, president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, highlighted yesterday, in a visit to the Port Authority, that the port of Granadilla de Abona “it needs a boost”, because “it is called to be an energy hub for clean energies”, especially from 2025, when European measures that seek to promote the decarbonization of maritime transport will become effective.
The president of the insular Corporation also recalled that there are projects aimed at making the port of Granadilla a reference in terms of green hydrogen. Finally, she also stressed that a solution is needed for the high volume of traffic and passengers that the port of Los Cristianos presents, with 3,700 maritime maneuvers a year and more than 2.2 million passengers. “The port is in a very precarious situation,” said Dávila, who is committed to continuing with projects such as the tender for the interchange project and the undergrounding of the Chayofita road, “which would allow traffic relief.”
Regarding the start date of the works, she indicated that it is “impossible to know exactly,” but it will be “as soon as possible,” concluded the island president, who was accompanied by Vice President Lope Afonso and the President of the Port Authority, Pedro Suárez, who, it should be remembered, continues to support the port of Fonsalía, in Guía de Isora, a project discarded by the previous Government of the Canary Islands.
A little over a month ago, the Tenerife Cabildo awarded a services contract for the drafting of the construction project for the interchange and the undergrounding of Chayofita Avenue in Los Cristianos, for an amount close to 500,000 euros.
According to the Minister of Mobility, Eulalia García, these projects are considered strategic actions aimed at improving mobility in an area with a high volume of traffic, where vehicular flows from the port and maritime traffic converge, in addition to that generated by tourism. .
The Los Cristianos interchange also seeks to respond to a long-awaited request from the southern town, as it will allow the reorganization of an important space in the town.
The Cabildo of Tenerife continues to implement strategic projects both in road infrastructure and in the promotion of public transport, with the aim of improving mobility on the island.
