SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –
57.69% of the Canary Islands local entities (municipalities, associations and councils) have submitted their 2022 accounts on time before the Canary Islands Audience of Accounts, 11.46% more than in the previous year, as reported by the institution. .
The submission period ended last October 16. As of today, of the 97 existing entities in the Canary Islands, 42 entities continue without presenting the documentation for the 2022 general account before the Audience of Accounts (29 town councils, 8 associations and 5 councils).
The Audience of Accounts highlights the slight increase year after year in the accountability of the Canarian town councils, despite the lack of accountability, to date, of the 29 mentioned, out of the 88 existing ones.
The associations are those with the lowest level of compliance. Only 1 of the 9 in the Canary Islands submitted their accounts, a figure even worse than the previous year.
Several of the associations have been inactive or have been in the process of dissolution for years, which is why the Audience of Accounts of the Canary Islands has repeatedly recommended starting or completing their extinction process soon.
The rendering of accounts by local entities and their compliance on time constitutes, in addition to a legal obligation, a basic democratic duty to guarantee transparency in the management of their economic-financial activity. Furthermore, it is essential for the exercise of economic-financial control of public management, both by the internal control bodies and for the Canary Islands Audience of Accounts and for the Court of Auditors.
The lack of surrender is subject to withholding of 2% of the payments that must be received from the Government of the Canary Islands, following a mandatory requirement. In turn, it may be subject to sanctioning procedures by the Court of Auditors. Currently, only the Telde City Council has withheld payments for failure to submit information.
