VALVERDE (EL HIERRO), Oct. 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –
A total of 212 migrants arrived on the island of El Hierro this Tuesday, after the ‘Río Tajo’ patrol boat of the Civil Guard escorted a second cayuco in which 41 people were traveling, all of sub-Saharan origin and one of them minor, as confirmed by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (Cecoes) 1-1-2.
The barge was intercepted by the Civil Guard south of the island of El Hierro – without Maritime Rescue having to intervene – and was escorted to the La Restinga dock.
There, some of its occupants stated that they had been sailing for ten days after setting sail from somewhere on the coast of sub-Saharan Africa.
Once on land, the 41 occupants of the cayuco were assisted by the health device made up of personnel from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) and volunteers from the Red Cross and a total and although up to 12 did not arrive in good health conditions, they were not referred to no one to the hospital.
