SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 28 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Tenerife received the arrival of 714,832 passengers in the month of September, 11.3% more than the previous year (72,533 more passengers) and 7.4% higher than the arrivals the Island had in September 2019.

The Vice President and Tourism Councilor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, has stated that the month of September continues to corroborate that Tenerife continually improves records in the arrival of visitors.

“We are talking about the average passenger arrival exceeding 11%, which in turn represents an improvement of 7.4% compared to 2019 and that the Island manages to account for 38% of the total arrivals to the Canary Islands, which which represents a significant and stimulating record,” he added.

Lope Afonso highlighted that Tenerife is positioned as one of the destinations that grows the most and that it continues to grow throughout the year. “This has to do with the good moment of the destination, with the maintenance and expansion of routes and connections, being the best connected Canarian destination. We are very optimistic about the figures for the winter, touching historical figures. We are a thriving destination capable of attracting audiences from traditional markets, but also of continuing to conquer new markets,” he said.

Arrivals to Tenerife in the aforementioned month represented 38% of the total arrivals to the Canary Islands. Gran Canaria, with a 28% share, Lanzarote, with 17% and Fuerteventura, with a 13% share. After them, La Palma (3%), El Hierro (0.8%) and La Gomera (0.3%).

National traffic arriving in Tenerife, 306,342 passengers, was 13.3% above that recorded in September of the previous year, with an increase in peninsular traffic of 10.7% and inter-island traffic of 17%. in interannual comparison. Compared to September 2019, arrivals from national airports in September 2023 have been 1.2% higher, driven by the 3.2% increase in interisland traffic compared to 2019 (+3.2%), while that the peninsular remains practically stable (-0.2%).

International traffic, with 408,490 passengers arriving in the month, increased by 9.8% compared to September 2022 and 12.5% ​​compared to 2019.

63% of arrivals in September were registered through the Tenerife South airport (451,251 passengers), registering an increase of 10% compared to the previous year. The Tenerife North airport, with an increase of 13.6%, received almost 37% of the traffic arriving on the Island in the month (263,581 passengers). In the case of Tenerife North, inter-island traffic (+17%), peninsular traffic (+10.5%) has maintained good performance, as well as the three international markets that operate through this airport.

In the central summer months of 2023 (July-September), the Island has maintained connections with 26 countries, through connectivity with 111 national and international airports, operated by 44 groups of companies. A year ago in the same period, the balance was 22 connected countries, 108 airports and 34 airline groups operating in the period.

In these three summer months, the balance of air traffic reaching the Island is 2,227,678 passengers, a figure that increases by 7.3% over the previous year, and is 5.6% higher than the summer. .

Between January and September 2023, Tenerife has maintained connectivity with 29 markets, compared to 28 in the same period of the previous year. Thus, during 2023, connectivity has been maintained with Bulgaria, Slovenia and Venezuela, markets not operated in 2022. Although in 2022, unlike 2023, the Island had connectivity with Russia and Ukraine. Hence, the market balance will be one more for 2023.
