Clavijo warns that NGOs “can’t take it anymore” in the Canary Islands with guardianship of more than 4,400 migrant minors

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, warned this Friday that NGOs “cannot take any more” with the management of more than 4,400 migrant minors who are under the guardianship of the autonomous community, so he hopes to close in a couple of weeks the proposed law on mandatory transfer to transfer it to the central government and start working along those lines.

In statements to journalists after meeting with the management of the Red Cross in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he pointed out that the “main problem” for the Canary Islands is in the minors because although the reception centers “are saturated” they are making an “effort” on the part of the Ministry of Migration and the Government Delegation to refer to the Peninsula.

The president has indicated that we must “alleviate the situation” with minors, hence there has been dialogue with the Prosecutor’s Office to try to speed up the age identification tests and has expressed concern about the need to guarantee the rights of children and migrant girls.

He has acknowledged that the arrival of a canoe with 300 migrants on board “subjects a lot of stress” to the reception system but has assessed that the average time spent in a camp has gone from a month and a half to about ten days.

Clavijo has commented that there are “small matters” pending, such as the destruction of the canoes that pile up in the port of La Restinga because “they do not fit” and has appreciated that through the Red Cross and the Ministry, nurses have been hired for the ‘little hospital’ that has been implemented on the dock.

“I see good will except with minors and we are going to continue to demand firmness and institutional loyalty,” he highlighted.

Looking for solutions, he has proposed that the EU must have a “common migration policy” and from there it must enable spaces for cooperation and development with the countries of origin and regular migration routes that are “unrelated to mafias.”

HE IS “Amazed” BY ALBARES’ POSITION

In addition, he has missed more diplomatic work in Senegal because political instability, plus hunger and drought, have driven the departures of migrants, while he is “astonished” by the position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares. , who in the European Parliament said that irregular immigration was decreasing in Spain.

Clavijo understands that immigration “will never end” because it is “inherent” to human beings and what it is about is “regulating” it and providing a “humanitarian response” and achieving economic development in the sending countries.

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Francis Candil, has called it “ridiculous” that the autonomous communities only welcome 350 migrant minors from the archipelago and has pointed out that the Government of the Canary Islands is working on the development of a “map of resources” so that the migrant minors are distributed throughout the islands.

He has valued the “coordination” with all the councils to distribute minors even though there are sometimes some difficulties because the centers are “tense and at their limit”, with NGOs that say that “they can’t take it anymore and can’t cope”, That is why large centers have had to be opened as a primary care resource.
