SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 27 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, said this Friday that it is “reasonable” for the presidents of the autonomous communities to request information on the transfers of migrants from the Canary Islands but at the same time he has criticized the “xenophobic” statements heard by these days.
In statements to journalists after meeting with representatives of the Red Cross, he pointed out that “there is nothing to say” about the demand for information, beyond the fact that it is good for all public administrations to be coordinated.
He pointed out that the migratory phenomenon has been affecting the Canary Islands for many years and now “it is not being seen on TV” and in many territories they realize that it is necessary to set up facilities to welcome migrants and therefore, he understands that “it is important “that the regional presidents know the locations.
Clavijo, who did not want to refer explicitly to the president of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who has referred to the migrants as “packages” or that the central government wants to “get them off her back”, has indicated that statements from “all nature” and from the Canary Islands they do not share “that insecurity is mixed with immigration, these are unfortunate statements.”
