SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that on the second day of testing the closure of access to the TF-5 motorway from Guamasa, it was satisfactorily confirmed that the queues that formed as a result of the high number of vehicles coming from the north of the island “have been relieved.”

This was stated in statements to the media, following the fact that yesterday, Wednesday, the closure of the Guamasa link (exit 14) to the TF-5, direction Santa Cruz, began to be applied between 06:30 and 09:00 hours, and the diversion of its traffic along the TF-235 to join the Autopista del Norte through exit 12 (El Portezuelo).

Rosa Dávila has highlighted that, although yesterday the closure of exit 14 and the diversion of traffic along the TF-235 caused delays on this road and on others such as the TF-152, on this second day the The population around Guamasa has much more information than yesterday and has been able to change some habits, thus alleviating traffic.

The president of the Cabildo indicated that this closure is only affecting about 600 vehicles that join the Northern Highway at the Guamasa interchange, considered a “critical point” because it has a “very short” acceleration lane that “was constantly stopping TF-5 traffic.”

Thus, Dávila highlighted that this pilot test “is really working” because, although there has been traffic density, there have been no delays. Likewise, he wanted to remember that the closure of the Guamasa link will continue to be tested for the next five days, in which constant evaluations will be made.

For his part, the Minister of Highways, Dámaso Arteaga, indicated that today it has been perceived that drivers have looked for other ways to join the TF-5, leaving more through Los Naranjeros, and he advocated waiting for users to find the highway again. their normal habit to be able to draw conclusions from a measure that is provisional.

Dámaso Arteaga wanted to send a message of confidence and tranquility to drivers by confirming that the Highway is “working much better” and that traffic is “somewhat more fluid”, although he acknowledged that there are still delays but “much shorter.” In addition, he added that now we must ensure that the entire environment of the roads surrounding the Guamasa area does not collapse and that serious delays do not occur.

The counselor hoped that this situation would continue for the rest of the days to be able to draw objective conclusions and statistical data that would allow for medium and long-term decisions regarding traffic reorganization and investments in the area, undertaking small lane improvement projects. short acceleration periods or intersections where it is necessary to make a roundabout.
