He Court of First Instance of Icod de los Vinos yesterday paralyzed the eviction of the eleven families that reside in the old Roycasa building, in the Las Canteras neighborhoodin Buenavista del Norte.
The decision was communicated to those affected through the lawyer representing them, who also confirmed that the launch is scheduled for January 26 of next year.
The neighbors confessed that the postponement is “a respite” to look for a better housing alternative, either through the Canary Islands Government’s Prohogar Program or individually and with essential services such as water and electricity to be able to move in.
Until yesterday, they assured that only two families had
key to their new house, where they have no water or electricity, and the others were pending because until Wednesday “they had not been called even though they signed a document in which they committed to assigning them a home.”
Likewise, and according to the information provided to them by the lawyer representing them, they add that through the Prohogar program a postponement was requested until December 31 “because they are still looking for an alternative accommodation.”
Those affected believe that it is the best to be able to move calmly and with all the services
It is worth remembering that a decade ago these neighbors subscribed to the rental of a privately promoted Public Protection home with an option to purchase in a four-building development of the now defunct Roycasa. When the developer went bankrupt, the building was acquired by a vulture fund that recognizes only some contracts.
The property does not have a certificate of occupancy and on the outside you can see a plaque that calls them official protection although they never met the requirement to receive this qualification.
At the beginning of August the electricity company cut off their electricity service without prior notice and since then they have paid for a generator set with their income.
