Tenerife will host the Turespaña 2024 Convention. This was announced yesterday by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo, and the general director of Turespaña, Miguel Ángel Sanz Castedo, during the closing session of the III Turespaña Convention held at the Kursaal in the Basque city of San Sebastián. An event attended, representing Tenerife, by the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, who was accompanied by technicians from the public tourism entity.
The vice president and advisor of Tourism of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, pointed out that “with great satisfaction we have welcomed the news that Tenerife will host the IV Turespaña Convention in 2024, an entity that brings together the cream of the sector in these events. in Spain, and which has a representation of the main tourist actors on the international scene, generating the opportunity for the Island to continue being a reference destination.” Afonso highlighted that parallel activities will be developed at this event and “we hope that the different issues that concern the general interests of the destination, from promotion to connectivity, can be accommodated.”
In his speech, after the Island’s designation was made public, Melwani thanked him for the “honor” of hosting the convention and highlighted that “tourism, the main industry in the Canary Islands, not only drives the region’s gross domestic product, but also supports the stability of employment and the quality of life of the local population.”
He specified, thus, that the current focus on the Island “is to bet on the quality of tourism, relieving the pressure of the number of visitors and focusing on the singularities of Tenerife, such as its excellent climate, nature, the quality of services and its gastronomy, culture and traditions, in order to capture a traveler profile with a medium-high purchasing power that leaves greater spending and profitability in the destination.”
The IV Turespaña Convention in Tenerife will be held in the municipality of Adeje in the month of October 2024 and will make the Island the center of the debate on the Spanish tourism sector. The theme of the Tenerife convention will be digitalization, which, together with sustainability, which has focused on the recently closed event, “will be the levers to build a sector that adapts quickly to market changes, to its new consumers, and to the contribution to generating sustainable and efficient destinations,” Melwani advanced.
