The Cabildo of Tenerife closes access to the TF-5 towards the capital for seven days

He Tenerife Council will close access to the TF-5 highway from Guamasa and towards the capital of Tenerife, from 6:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. from October 25 to 27, and from the 30th of the same month to November 3, to seek to improve traffic mobility.

The Minister of Highways of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Dámaso Arteaga, has reported that it is a provisional cut of about two kilometers, and traffic will be rerouted through the island road TF-235 to exit 12 of the TF-5 , El Portezuelo junction, from where vehicles can join the TF-5 highway.

The cut will not take place on Saturday or Sunday, nor on November 1, which is a holiday, so the measure will take place for 7 days.

Dámaso Arteaga has insisted that this is a measure that is adopted “from responsibility”, with the utmost caution, and that it seeks to improve traffic management and greater fluidity, as well as reduce accident rates in the area.

The counselor explained that between 06:00 and 09:00, at the Guamasa interchange, about 600 vehicles per hour join the TF-5, that is, about 1,800 vehicles in the three hours.

And at the TF-North link, in the old terminal of the airport, which goes directly to the TF-5 in the direction of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, about 2,900 vehicles are incorporated, about 1,000 in that time slot.

Dámaso Arteaga has acknowledged that the measure is not definitive, since it is necessary to launch other initiatives such as improving infrastructure, but, he added, “as soon as investments arrive” measures can be adopted before expanding to other lanes.

The counselor has asked for the collaboration of the drivers to adopt measures in the face of the “permanent” saturation in the Guamasa area and the airport, and added that, instead of maintaining a passive attitude, it has been deemed necessary to test proposals.

The Cabildo of Tenerife has requested the collaboration of the Provincial Traffic Headquarters, which will have a device consisting of a mobile patrol that will regulate the two kilometers of affected section of the TF-235 highway.

Dámaso Arteaga has commented that this is a measure provided for in the general traffic regulations when it is advisable for reasons of safety or fluidity of traffic.
